Here is Another Fun DVD All About Sharks From NCircle Entertainment -- Octonauts: Calling all Sharks! -- Only $5 --Review and #Giveaway

Disclosure:  I was sent a screener from the vendor in exchange for an honest review. All views shared are mine and mine alone.

When my girls were little they used to love the Octonauts.  They couldn't go a day without watching this show and pulling out their toy bin filled with Octonauts toys.  Even though they are getting older, they still enjoy watching their Octonauts DVDs which they have acquired over the years -- don't ask me how many we have, as I have lost count...I just know we have a lot. :-)  I was surprised to learn that the girls didn't have this shark DVD, after being sent it last week to review.  The girls, who have been busy watching Shark Week shows on television, made time to watch this DVD, which contains 6-action packed full-length episodes, from this popular animated series.

As I mentioned before, my girls have been doing research papers about some of their favorite sharks as part of our schooling.  One shark that they were introduced to thanks to a chapter book they read about sharks, and one of the many Shark Week shows they watched was the Lemon Shark.  So, when they started to watch this Octonauts and saw that it had an episode about an injured Lemon Shark, they couldn't wait to watch it. In addition to the Lemon Shark, young explorers and shark fans will also come face to face with Cookiecutter sharks and even a Whitetip shark.

Here are the episodes you will find on this NCircle Entertainment DVD, which has a run time of 70 minutes:

  • Cookiecutter Sharks
  • Lost Lemon Shark
  • Dwarf Lantern Shark
  • Giant Jelly
  • Hungry Pilot Fish
  • Porcupine Puffer
It was hard for my girls to choose a favorite episode as they said they were all really good, and worth watching again...and that they did...I have counted 5 times so far, in less than a week's time.  And, I don't see the stopping anytime soon, as they continue to talk about this DVD and how much fun it is to watch.

If you have a shark fan in your life, who also loves the Octonauts, and you don't already have this DVD, then you will definitely want to pick it up today.  At only $5, you can't go wrong for the price!

More About this DVD:

"Dive into adventures with your favorite underwater explorers, the Octonauts! Join brave Captain Barnacles, daredevil ex-pirate Kwazii, and medic Peso Penguin, along with other Octonauts as they explore the world's oceans, rescue the creatures who live there, and protect their habitats above and below the waves! On this exciting DVD, join the Octonauts aboard the Octopod as they come face to face with a trio of pesky Cookie cutter Sharks, look after an injured Lemon Shark and stop a White tip Shark who is chasing the Gup-A!:

Disclosure: I was sent a screener from the vendor in exchange for an honest review. All views shared are mine and mine alone.

Just because Shark Week is coming to a close, doesn't mean your family can't still enjoy all the wonder and majesty long after these intriguing documentaries and shows stop airing.  My girls look forward to Shark Week each year...it is like a winding down of summer event for them, as we gear up to 5-6 days a week of homeschooling.  This year, the girls really had a blast with all the new shark-inspired episodes that aired on television, which they recorded so that we can watch all throughout the year.  And, when the girls aren't watching these recorded episodes they will more than likely be popping the Thomas Edison's Secret Lab: It's Always Sharkest DVD from NCircle Entertaiment into the DVD player to watch.

Thomas Edison's Secret Lab: It's Always Sharkest

Here is more about this DVD, available from NCircle Entertainment for only $5.00  (be sure to read on to learn how you can enter to win a copy of this DVD for the shark fan in your life):

Join Angie and friends as they learn and explore a variety of science topics from a shark s sense of smell to plants and pollinator s roles to radioactive decay to DNA and more! While visiting one of Kent s relatives, the kids come up with a great idea for attracting more tourists to his restaurant - the only catch is that it also attracts a very big shark with very big teeth! What will the Secret Lab Kids do? Guided by fun-loving Edison, Angie and friends will show just how fun science can be!"

--

Ever since NCircle Entertainment started releasing Thomas Edison's Secret Lab titles, my girls have been fans, as they both love science, and think this series is a great learning tool.  The girls love watching Angie and friends learn and explore different science topics  with the help of the secret lab they stumbled upon.  In this DVD, shark fans will learn all about sharks, while also being introduced to historic scientists like Charles Darwin, Dr. Karl Von Frisch, Frederick Soddy, and more.

This DVD contains the following episodes:

  • It's Always Sharkfest
  • Bee-Gone
  • Monster Smash
  • Follow Your Nose
  • Fungal Bungle
  • Burpin' Babies
  • The Mystery of Pirate Woods
  • Mutant Mascot

My girls really enjoyed this DVD and have already watched it a handful of times.  They loved learning about a shark's sense of smell, a pollinator's role, DNA and even radioactive decay, in a fun and entertaining way.  Who knew learning about science could be so fun?  This DVD series makes it fun for kids of all ages.

Introducing a Board Book Series from Mibo That Combines Gorgeous Illustrations with Fact-Filled Rhyme about an Array of Animals. Perfect for Toddlers and Preschoolers (Review)

Disclosure:  I was sent review copies from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. All views shared are mine and mine alone.

Last month I was contacted by Button Books, a children's book publisher based in the UK, that also releases some of the titles here in the US.  They had seen a post I did and reached out to see if I wanted to review upcoming titles with my girls, and share these wonderful books with my readers.  If you follow my blog, then you know I love books and reading, as do my girls.  So, I jumped at the opportunity, especially after visiting their website https://www.buttonbooks.co.uk/ and checking out these recent and upcoming releases.  I knew my girls would have fun reading these books, and I know you will love to have this great children's publishing company on your radar, especially with the holidays fast approaching -- think book countdown advents (like the ones I have shared over the past few years) -- these books from Button Books would be perfect for an advent, and would be enjoyed for years to come with your children.

After talking with the folks at Button Books, they graciously sent along a package of some of their recent board books perfect for toddlers and preschoolers, as well a sampling of other books geared towards elementary aged children (stay tuned for an upcoming post where I will feature these titles).

Even though my girls are a little old for board books, they cover art of the The Forest Folk, The Marine Team & The Sky Guys, which all were published in March of this year and illustrated by Madeleine Rogers, caught their eye, and they couldn't wait to read these and the other two books that make up this series from Mibo. In addition to these three recent releases, we were also sent The Polar Pack, The Safari Set and The Jungle Crew, three other board books in this Mibo series, which were published back in July 2017.

Here is more about these 6board books, which are all available now here in the USA, for young children and families to enjoy:

"Aimed at children aged 0 to 3 years old, these books feature five animals from three different environments and all are explored through rhyme and pictures. With two spreads dedicated to each animal, adults will be able to read the short playful rhyme on each spread to children and look at the bright illustrations to teach them about their habits and environment. Combining gorgeous illustration with fun, fact-filled rhyme The Forest Folk, The Marine Team and The Sky Guys are wonderful new additions to the Mibo series and the perfect way to expose little ones to animals and the natural world. The Forest Folk features; a brown bear, wolf, squirrel, otter and deer, The Marine Team features; a seal, seahorse, shark, turtle and whale and then The Sky Guys features; a flamingo, owl, hummingbird, albatross and pelican. Each book comes with a fact page about the animals which is unique to these board book editions.

Vibrant and modern, these board books will make wonderful gifts for tiny tots and thanks to their durable shiny pages they’ll endure all that’s thrown their way! Impeccably designed to complement the content of the books, they’re sure to entertain and educate in equal measure."

I have read my fair share of board books for toddlers/preschoolers over the years, and can say without a doubt that this series from Mibo is the best I have seen in regards to sharing facts about animals with little ones in a fun and engaging way.  Like I said, my two girls who are now 6.5 and 8, couldn't wait to read these board books as they love learning animals, and they couldn't put them down.  Not only were the colorful illustrations captivating, but they were having so much fun learning about the different animals as they flipped through the pages, and especially loved the last page which includes another fun fact about each animal spotlighted in the book.

Did you know?...

  • A flamingo is bright pink because of the little shrimp-like creatures it feeds on.
or
  • A toucan's beak is made from the same stuff as our hair and fingernails.
  • Tree frogs have super sticky feet to help them climb slippery surfaces.
  • A blue whale's heart can weigh as much as a small car.
  • Some seals can hold their breath for us to 2 hours while they dive for food.
These are just a handful of the fun facts kids will learn when they flip through the pages of these wonderfully put-together board books.  My girls were really excited to get the complete set in the Mibo series, and are hoping more books will be released, so that they can grow their collection and learn more about these amazing animals.  And, thanks to these books, my girls have a list of animals they want to learn more about in the coming school year, and will be on the look out for them when we visit nearby aquariums and zoos soon.  Now that they know interesting facts about these animals, they will be looking at these animals in a new light.  Like my youngest daughter said when asked about these books, "They are fascinating and hard to put down." :-)  When the girls aren't flipping through these board books reading about their favorite animals, they are trying their hand at drawing them, just like the talented illustrator Madeleine Rogers did.

You can learn more about these 6 animal board books in the Mibo series by heading on over to the Button Books website.  Even though this is UK publishing site, these books are available now in the US as major book retailers including Amazon.

Fans of Bugs, Sharks and Snakes Will Love These Chapter Books from Animal Planet - Filled with Amazing Animal Facts! (Review)

Disclosure:  I was sent review copies from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. All views shared are mine and mine alone.

Thanks to the local libraries summer reading programs and my requirement of at least 45 minutes of reading a day for our school, the girls have been turning out book after book.  They are now on a first name basis with the neighboring librarians and have been told by two of them that they have read more books than other kids signed up for their summer reading programs.  Even though the libraries give little prizes or incentives for reading, my girls are picking up a new book (almost every day) because they have developed a love of reading, and look forward to seeing what new adventures they can go on, or what fascinating facts they learn about animals and places.  I have always loved reading, and have been looking forward to the time that my girls can pick up a book and read on their own, and get excited about what they are reading and want to share what they are reading or learning with family and friends.

Recently, I shared a review of the Animal Planet Chapter Books Horses and Dolphins books with you (You can read my review of these two books here: https://www.inspiredbysavannah.com/2018/06/discover-amazing-animal-facts-about.html). My girls love Animal Planet and were excited to learn that they had not only chapter books about different animals, but also a fun Animal Planet Adventures Chapter Book series which has kids solving puzzles along the way.   I ended up picking up all 4 Animal Planet Adventures Chapter Books in this series for Savannah's birthday, and within two days the girls had read each of the books, passing them back and forth to read and talk about.

My girls were excited when I opened a package with three more of the Animal Planet Chapter Books in the mail a couple weeks ago as they were about animals they love -- sharks, snakes and bugs (there is also another book in the series about dinosaurs that we haven't picked up and read yet, but stay tuned! :-).

And, with Shark week happening this week, the sharks book came in handy as part of our "Sharks" theme for our homeschooling.  The girls were able to use this book and pull facts about different sharks to write reports on their favorites.  Savannah chose to write about the spiny dogfish shark (partly because it had "dog" in the name) and the hammerhead, while Bella chose the great white shark and lemon sharks.  Thanks to the Animal Planet Chapter Books Shark book they able to draw and label the different parts of a shark, find out what region they lived in, what they ate, and other fun shark facts.  And, when we sat to watch Shark Week shows, they were all smiles when they heard shark facts that they had recently read about in this book.

If you have a shark lover in your house, or want to continue Shark Week well beyond this week with your kids, then you will want to pick up this chapter book. At only $5.94 retail price -- you can find on Amazon for around $4.99 right now -- this is a steal for shark lovers.  It is chock full of fun facts broken down into chapters, so that you can read at your own pace, or flip to topics that interest you and that you want to learn more about.

In addition to the Sharks chapter book, I was also sent the Snakes and Bugs chapter books.  Bella, my youngest, has been intrigued with bugs and snakes after recently gone to a neighboring library for their animal adventures class.  She got to hold different snakes, as well as turtles, lizards, frogs and other animals.  But, she kept gravitating towards the snakes and felt at ease around them -- even the biggest ones, which I found myself flinching when she would bring near me.

After that library event all she talks about is wanting a snake as a pet.  She knows that they eat frozen mice and said that they only need to be fed every week or 2 weeks depending on size and type of snake, so I didn't need to store too many frozen mice in the freezer -- nice that she is thinking of freezer space for me.  While I don't see us getting a snake any time soon, I don't mind watching snake documentaries and reading books like this one that share fascinating facts about snakes.

In regards to the Animal Planet Chapter Books - Bugs book, kids will learn about all sorts of bugs like beetles, dragonflies, mantids, phasmids, mosquitos, flies, fleas, butterflies, moths, and even ants, bees and wasps.  We have touched upon many of these bugs over the years during our "Bug" theme weeks, but as the girls read through this book, they found themselves learning more about them, and couldn't wait to share what they learned with my husband and me.

We have really enjoyed the Animal Planet Chapter Books #1-5 in this chapter book series, which is perfect for children who are reading chapter books, or families that like to sit down and read a good book together.  My girls love drawing pictures of the animals after reading the books, and have been looking at the libraries for other books about the animals they recently learned about from these chapter books, to learn more.  I highly recommend these book, and hope more books will be releasing in this and their Animal Planet Adventures Chapter Book series.

You can find all the chapter books from Animal Planet over at Amazon (most for less than the retail price), making them great to pick up for end of summer reading.

Two New Patriotic DVDs Available Now -- Perfect For Homeschool Families and Those Who Love Programs About Our Great Country (Review)

Disclosure:  I was sent screeners from the vendor in exchange for an honest review. All views shared are mine and mine alone.

TWO NEW PATRIOTIC PROGRAMS
AVAILABLE ON DVD
FROM PUBLIC MEDIA DISTRIBUTION

My youngest daughter has turned out to be a history buff and wants to learn everything about our great county and historical figures like Abe Lincoln, Frederick Douglass, Rosa Parks, and so many more great people.  As a result, we have been picking up and reading books about these great people and historical events, to keep her excited about history.  She now wants to be a history teacher when she grows up so that she can share with others about all these wonderful events and people in history, and how they have shaped our nation, and countries around us.

Two recent films released from PBS Distribution that we watched and that have become instant favorites with Bella were: "America's Greatest Monuments" and "A Star-Spangled Story: Battle for America."  We watched these movies right around the 4th of July, so they were perfect for getting us excited to celebrate our great country and the sacrifices others have made to keep us a free county.

Did you know that only about 40% of US citizens know the words to Star-Spangled Banner?  Do you know all the words to this treasured song?  I have to admit that I have found myself humming at times throughout this song when it has been played at games and public events, when I didn't know the words.  Yes, I knew most of the lyrics, but there were a few spots in the song that I wasn't sure of the proper wording.  So, as part of our homeschooling this past June, I made the girls study and memorize the "Star-Spangled Banner" in time for the 4th of July celebrations we would be attending and that this song would probably be sung. I didn't want them to hum or pause mid-way not knowing the words.  I want my girls to be proud of our country and those who have defended it and  have worked to protect our freedoms.  And, one way to pay tribute to those heroes is to learn this treasured song, as well as learn the back story surrounding it.  And, thanks to the Smithsonian: A Star-Spangled Story: Battle for America For America DVD and our studying of this song, they and I can  now sing it word for word and be proud of the America that we call home.

Bella really took a liking to the "American's Greatest Monuments" film as she got to see close ups of war memorials and monuments that been erected to honor our founding fathers and those who have fought and died protecting our country.  The film does an amazing job not only of sharing close ups of these monuments, but also sharing stories about them and how they now stand to represent our nation's history, which was created by the people, for the people.

If you love patriotic films then you will want to pick up these two recent DVD releases to add to your collection.  I can't wait to watch them time and again with my family, and share them with family and friends to enjoy also.

Here is more about these two recent DVD releases:

A STAR-SPANGLED STORY: BATTLE FOR AMERICA

The Star-Spangled Banner is known by all, treasured for its powerful melody and stirring lyrics. And yet, only about 40% of U.S. citizens know all the words. And even fewer know their meaning. In this program, viewers can travel back to 1814, when Washington D.C. was under British attack during the "Second War of Independence," and the very bricks and mortar of American democracy were reduced to smoking rubble. The program examines the battle that inspired Francis Scott Keyto immortalize its final moments, then reveal how his poem transformed into an anthem.

A STAR-SPANGLED STORY: BATTLE FOR AMERICA” will be available on DVD June 12, 2018. The run time of the program is approximately 51 minutes and the SRP is $19.99.

AMERICA’S GREATEST MONUMENTS

They are studied in school and visited by millions. They are world-renowned symbols of the nation. But they are also shrouded in misinformation, mystery, and mythology. How much does America really know about its greatest monuments? From war memorials, to monuments honoring America's founding fathers, to Arlington's eternal flame, these soaring tributes in stone, steel, soil, and sky have amazing stories to tell. They are a permanent record of this nation's history and evolution into the world's greatest democracy - a country of the people.

AMERICA’S GREATEST MONUMENTS” will be available on DVD June 12, 2018. The run time of the program is approximately 46 minutes and the SRP is $19.99"
