Canine Company

If you follow my blog then you have probably read posts and seen pictures of our rescue dogs.  At one time we had three rescue dogs, but two got sick and passed, and now we only have two -- Lily who we rescued in Dec. 2008 to celebrate the end of my cancer treatment and who we got as a playmate for my beloved Abby, who I adopted in March of that same year, but due to seizures, she passed away a couple years ago.

Lily, who is 14 years young :-)

We also have Milly, who we rescued last August, after no one else would. She was found in NYC with an electrical cord around her neck and as a result is afraid of people.  Having dealt with this type of dog in the past -- our first rescue was Manny, and, he, too was afraid of people, on top of his severe skin allergies, we knew how to handle Milly and wanted to be able to give her a forever home, where she, like Lily and our previous two rescue dogs, could feel unconditional love and be in a safe and comforting environment.

Milly, who is 4 years old

Like many other pet owners, our dogs are more than just pets.  They are family to us, and we think of them as our furry children. :-)  So, when holidays and birthdays (we celebrate the day we rescued them as their actual birthdays are unknown), we go all out with pupcakes and gifts for them.  And, with the holidays fast approaching, I had shopping lists for them that included new beds, squeaky toys, chewies and dog treats.  Santa never forgets pets, especially in our house.  And, there are always wrapped gifts under the tree for them to scratch and paw their way open, alongside side our girls.

You may recall a previous post I shared a couple days ago about how we have a holiday tradition of giving the girls a new ornament each Christmas to add to their collection we started when they were babies.  Once they get older and move out on their own, they will take their box of ornaments and have memories of the different Christmas' based on the ornament they are looking at.  This year, the girls will be helping us with their ornament.  We will be using the pawprints ornament available at Canine Company for only $18.98, and capturing both Lily and Milly's pawprints, for the girls to enjoy this year and treasure for years to come.

Pawprints™ Ornament

Growing up we had a dog name Toby.  He was the best dog ever, and one of the main reasons I am such a huge dog lover.  I so wished I could have had a paw print ornament to remember Toby each time we put the Christmas tree up.  It would have gone perfectly next to his picture frame ornament my parents gave me when I moved out and put up my first Christmas tree.

What I love most about the pawprints ornament, besides is cheap price, is that there is no mixing, no baking or mess involved in making this treasured keepsake.  You simply push your dog's paw into the impression material included in the kit, cut it out with the ring-shaped cookie cutter, punch a hole in the top and string the red ribbon through, before you let air dry. It is easy as 1-2-3.  My girls can't wait to this weekend when we will be making these custom pawprint ornaments with our rescue dogs -- I was waiting to receive a second kit so we could do one for each of the girls.

Pawprints™ Ornament

So, if you are a pet lover or have someone on your shopping list who is, why not pick up the pawprints ornament and create an ornament that will be treasured for years to come?  Right now, you can save 15% off your order of this or any other item from Canine Company. Simply use coupon code "Blog 15" at checkout to enjoy these savings, off your entire order. :-)

Coat Your Throat with Pine Bros. Softish Throat Drops -- Also Makes a Great Stocking Stuffer Idea

Disclosure:  I was sent samples from the vendor in order to write up an honest review.  All views shared are mine and mine alone.

Boy, is it turning out to be a bad cold season.  In our house alone, we have dealt with pneumonia, which landed myself in the hospital in early November for a week.  Once I left the hospital, I found my daughter Savannah had pneumonia, while Bella was suffering from croup. Ugh.  And, before these health setbacks, we had dealt with sinus infections and head colds. So, for the better part of October and November we were grounded at home, trying to rest and get better.  And, as  we were home, we saw family and friends also dealing with similar illness.  My mom had pneumonia, and just yesterday my daughters' best friend was diagnosed with early stage pneumonia.  I am so hoping that December is a time for rest and healing for people and that the new year will start off on a better foot for all.

Just the other day my husband came home complaining of a scratchy throat.  I thought to myself, "Oh, no, not again." We were finally starting to get better and now my husband was bringing something home.  If you were to visit us right now, you would think we had our own little pharmacy going with all the prescribed and over the counter meds.  When a cold kicks in our house, it triggers asthma in myself and my two girls, so we have to use a nebulizer on top of medicine prescribed.  I have found that when I used the nebulizer and am in the house where it is dry from the heat being on, my throat, too, gets scratchy.  When this happens, I usually reach for a bag of Pine Bros. Softish Throat Drops and suck on a couple of the drops.  Usually this is all I need to sooth a dry and irritated throat.

And, when my husband complained of a sore throat, I quickly reached for a bag of Pine Bros. Softish Throat Drops and told him to suck on a couple, and see if that helped.

He had never tried Pine Bros. Softish Throat Drops before, just knew that I used them for a sore scratchy throat.  He was quick to comment on how good they tasted compared to other sore throat drops on the market. My husband, like so many other guys, is not a fan of doctors or medicine, so when he gets the dreaded "man cold" we have to sit back and let him suffer and complain until he gets better.

product-bag2

For the past few days my husband has been using Pine Bros. Softish Throat Drops to help soothe his irritated throat.  He says after he sucks on a couple of the drops, he get relief almost instantly.  He can't get over how this drop really coats his throat. This was not something he experienced with other sore throat drops.  I told him this was one of the many reason why I swear by Pine Bros. Softish Throat Drops, because they are ranked #1 in throat coating action.

I also love how the wild cherry flavor I have been using for years is now sugar-free. He, on the other hand, is a fan of the Vitamin C Orange drops as they contain Vitamin C (25% RDA per drop).

With the holidays fast approaching and cold and flu season in full swing, I have made a point to stock up on Pine Bros. Softish Throat Drops and even have extra to give as part of gifts to family and friends, so that they can get relief when a sore, irritated throat hits.

Last Minute Gift Idea for Peanuts Fans -- Peanuts Double Feature: Snoopy Come Home and A Boy Named Charlie Brown Now Available on DVD and Blu-Ray (Review)

Disclosure:  I was sent review copies from the vendor in order to write up an honest review. All views shared are mine and mine alone.

Peanuts Double Feature: Snoopy Come Home and A Boy Named Charlie Brown

"Join Charlie Brown and the rest of the delightful "Peanuts" gang in their smashing debut on the silver screen in the late Charles M. Schulz's first full-length animated features. Charlie Brown must prove he’s got what it takes when he competes in a national spelling bee championship. Plus, a shocking revelation is brought up from Snoopy’s past that leads him on a cross-country road trip. Filled with all the characters and charm that has made "Peanuts" the most popular comic strip in the world."

My girls can't get enough of Peanuts. Thanks to the new series, which began airing on television this year, my girls can get their daily fix of Snoopy and friends.  And, when they aren't tuning in to watch a new episode or watch one of their many recorded episodes, they will ask me to put on a Peanuts DVD for them.  I can't say "No" as I also love Snoopy and Charlie Brown and love to take a break from what I am doing to snuggle with the girls on the couch and watch Peanuts movies or the series on television with them.

So, you can only imagine how excited they (and I was) when we received the new Peanuts Double Feature: Snoopy Come Home and A Boy Named Charlie Brown, which arrived on DVD and Blu-ray back on Nov. 1st.  I was planning to surprise the girls will this 2-DVD set, but ended up getting a copy to review.

The girls were quick to finish their schoolwork the other day just so we could watch these two movies, which are about an hour and half each.  These two movies previously released on DVD separately, but this is the first time you get them in the Double Feature format.  I remember these movies from way back when I was a kid, so it was nice to watch them again with my girls.  And, my girls loved them both, and said they were excited to watch a movie from the good 'ole days (what they hear me calling my childhood) :-)

The girls can't get enough of the new Peanuts Double Feature: Snoopy Come Home and A Boy Named Charlie Brown.  We have only had for about a week now, but have already watched the two movies about a half a dozen times.  And, whenever their friends come to play, they are quick to put one of these movies on for everyone to watch. :-)

So, if you have a Peanuts fan (young or old) in your life, why not consider picking up a copy of the recently released Peanuts Double Feature: Snoopy Come Home and A Boy Named Charlie Brown to surprise them with. It would make for a great stocking stuffer idea. :-)

---

More About A Boy Named Charlie Brown:

"Join Charlie Brown, Lucy, Linus, Snoopy and the whole Peanuts gang in their very first big screen adventure!  Take a jazzy joyride through the streets of Manhattan as Charlie Brown sets out to bolster his shaky confidence at the National Spelling Bee.  Charles M. Schulz and franchise director Bill Melendez weave a world made of witty dialogue, magical security blankets and bright-eyed beagles, all set to an Academy Award®-nominated score by Rod McKuen and Vince Guaraldi.  Sit for a spell with the Peanuts gang as they learn that if at first you don’t succeed, take a step back. Maybe a nap. Then grab the closest beagle… and dance."

More About Snoopy Come Home:

"When America’s most beloved beagle suddenly goes missing, the whole Peanuts gang bands together to bring him back home in this full-length feature.  With “Dogs Not Allowed” signs everywhere he turns, Snoopy and his newfound feathered friend Woodstock (making his big screen debut), leave the comforts of home behind and head for the highways in search of their true place in the world.  Camping out, eating up and just living the life of the open road, the intrepid twosome make their way across the country, dodging possessive pet-collectors, less-than-hospitable hospital workers, and bullying bus drivers on their way to reveal Snoopy’s secret past—only to discover that there really is no place like home."

Here is more about the movie, in case you missed my previous posts....

"Illumination has captivated audiences all over the world with the beloved hits Despicable MeDr. Seuss’ The LoraxDespicable Me 2 and Minions, now the second-highest-grossing animated movie in history.  Following the release of this summer’s comedy blockbuster The Secret Life of Pets, Illumination presents Sing this holiday season.

With its highly relatable characters, heart and humor, the first collaboration between writer/director Garth Jennings (Son of RambowThe Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy) and Illumination founder and CEO Chris Meledandri marks the sixth fully animated feature from the studio.

The event film stars Academy Award® winners Matthew McConaughey and Reese Witherspoon, alongside Seth MacFarlane, Scarlett Johansson, John C. Reilly, Taron Egerton and Grammy Award-nominated Tori Kelly.

Set in a world like ours but entirely inhabited by animals, Sing stars Buster Moon (McConaughey), a dapper koala who presides over a once-grand theater that has fallen on hard times.  Buster is an eternal—some might even say delusional—optimist who loves his theater above all and will do anything to preserve it.  Now faced with the crumbling of his life’s ambition, he has one final chance to restore his fading jewel to its former glory by producing the world’s greatest singing competition.

Five lead contestants emerge: Mike (MacFarlane), a mouse who croons as smoothly as he cons; Meena (Kelly), a timid teenage elephant with an enormous case of stage fright; Rosita (Witherspoon), an overtaxed mother run ragged tending a litter of 25 piglets; Johnny (Egerton), a young gangster gorilla looking to break free of his family’s felonies; and Ash (Johansson), a punk-rock porcupine struggling to shed her arrogant boyfriend and go solo.

Each arrives under Buster’s marquee believing that this is their shot to change the course of their life.  And as Buster coaches each of his contestants closer and closer to the grand finale, he starts to learn that maybe the theater isn’t the only thing that is in need of saving.

Featuring more than 65 hit songs, Sing is produced by Meledandri and his longtime collaborator Janet Healy.  Together, they have produced all of Illumination’s films since the studio’s inception.  Released by Universal Pictures, Sing arrives in theaters on Dec. 21, 2016.  www.singmovie.com

Make This Holiday Season More Memorable with a Fun Family Movie Night Watching "Angels Sing: A Christmas Movie," Starring Harry Connick Jr. #AngelsSing

Disclosure:  I was sent promotional items in exchange for an honest review.  All views shared are mine and mine alone.

When it comes to this time of year, I can't get enough of watching holiday movies with my family.  While I start watching movies with the girls right after Halloween as we are usually sent some DVDs to review for the blog, I don't pull out my full collection until the week of Thanksgiving. This is the kick off for the season for us, as we will put the Christmas tree up after Thanksgiving dinner.

It has become tradition for everyone who comes for dinner to bring a new ornament for the tree that has some special meaning.  Some make personalized ornaments, or in my mom's case, she likes to knit things like stockings, snowflakes, etc.  Others opt for ones they find at a holiday craft fair, while others simply go to the store and pick one up.  After everyone is done eating and the food is put away, everyone piles into the living and we share our ornament and why it is so special.  My plan with all the ornaments is down the road to split them up between the girls, so that when they move and start a family of their own they will have a box full of ornaments to decorate their first Christmas tree with.  I also started an ornament collection for the girls and add a few ornaments to their box every year.  usually I will include one with their age, or a favorite movie or television character they have liked in a given year, along with another personalized one.  I know that when they have children of their own, they will have fun sharing all their ornaments and the stories behind them.

While we hang ornaments on the tree, I have holiday music playing so that everyone can sing along to -- even if you can't sing, when you get everyone singing at the same time....it always sounds good! ;-)

When the tree is done, we will find a spot on the couch or chairs in the living and settle in to watch a handful of holiday movies, while we wait for our bellies to make room for coffee and dessert.

Angels Sing

Last year, I shared Angels Sing: A Christmas Movie with my family and friends and they said we had to make this a new tradition of watching it on Thanksgiving.  They loved it so much, and so did I.  So, this was first on movie must watch this.

And, to make movie viewing that much more fun and comfortable, I bought everyone a pair of holiday themed pajamas or a shirt to wear.  Some were wearing Santa pajamas, others were elves.

It was so cute to see everyone dressed for the season...and, it made for great photos, too.

Everyone agreed, sipping on hot chocolate and weary comfy holiday pajamas was so much fun, and one thing they will remember for years to come.  I can't wait to see what next year's Thanksgiving viewing of Angels Sing brings in terms of new family traditions. But, in the meantime, we are enjoying all the new ornaments on the tree, and thinking about all the fun memories we made this past Thanksgiving, thanks in part to one heartwarming holiday film, that should be on the top of everyone''s holiday movie watch list....Angels Sing: A Christmas Movie.

Here is more about the movie and the official trailer, if you have never heard of it...

Have you seen or heard about "Angels Sing: A Christmas Movie," which stars Harry Connick Jr., Kris Kristofferson, Fionnula Flanagon,  Connie Britto and even Willie Nelson.  If not, here is the movie trailer to give you an idea of what you are in store for when you pick up a copy of this movie to add to your family's growing holiday DVD collection, or rent it today...

This movie does an amazing job in capturing the true meaning of the holidays and the importance of celebrating and making memories with family and friends.  This was truly a charming story, which if you are prone to crying at heartfelt movies, pulled at your heartstrings. Both my mother and I found ourselves reaching for the tissue box to wipe our eyes throughout the movie.

The movie itself, which is filled with an amazing cast, does an amazing job at capturing the essence of the Christmas spirit.  It shows us that life is precious and not to take things for granted.  I, for one, don't take life for granted, after battling cancer back in 2008, after getting a diagnosis on Christmas Eve in 2007.  Now 8 years in remission, Christmas no longer is a sad reminder of what I went through, but a celebration of life and love I have for my family as we gather to celebrate the holidays.

Each year when Christmas rolls around, people find themselves trying to make amends or reconnect with loved ones they have lost touch with throughout the year.  It is something about the joy and magic of the holidays and brings families together, even those who have gone through personal and difficult tragedies.  This movie touches on this and shows how we can all move past the difficult times and celebrate the season and what is important most -- cherishing time with family and friends and not dwell on the past or what could have been.

Christmas has always been a favorite holiday of mine, not because of the gifts, but because of how it brings families together and creates memories that last a lifetime.  I was so glad to be able to share this wonderful family-friendly movie with my family this past weekend and know it will be one we watched again and again when the holidays roll around.  This movie will also get you excited about piling the family in the car to check out the holiday lights.  Just like in years past, after we finished watching this movie, we went to a few neighborhoods and homes in the area that go crazy with Christmas lights.  And, just like in years past, Savannah is always quick to ask if we can add more lights to our house, in hopes that the neighbors will join in and light up the street with beautiful Christmas lights. :-)

If you and your family love to gather and enjoy each others company as you watch wholesome family movies (or like me you are a Harry Connick Jr. fan and have to watch all his movies), then you will definitely want to pick up "Angels Sing: A Christmas Movie," available now on DVD from Lionsgate Home Entertainment.  Why not host your own family movie night to share this great holiday movie with those you love dear.  Here are so tips to help plan your upcoming #AngelsSing movie night...

Now Available at Walmart -- The 3 Little Pigs Board Game, Perfect for Little Ones This Holiday Season! @usfg 33littlepigs

Disclosure:  I was sent a sample from the vendor in order to write up an honest review. All views shared are mine and mine alone.

You are never too old to love the "3 Little Pigs."  Just yesterday my girls saw a cartoon for this classic tale on television and then decided to dress up as the pigs and act out the story. They made their own versions of the three houses.  It was really cute.  If only we had the 3 Little Pigs game from Tactic Games, it would have made for a fun afternoon of play and games.

After hearing about this game, I went online and ordered it from Walmart for only $14.99, to surprise the girls with.  Bella was the first to see me taking the game out of the box and went crazy with excitement.  She said, "Sister, we got a 3 Little Pig Game."  Then, Savannah got up from coloring and ran over to check it out.  Then, they grabbed the box and looked at what was included.  They were like little chatty Cathy's talking about the different pieces and how cool it was that the game had a bad wolf that would blow the pieces down.

They couldn't wait for me to read the instructions and set the game up for them to play. But, it only took a matter of minutes to set up and explain the game to the girls.  Then, they were off and running.  And, for over 45 minutes they were playing this cute board game non-stop.  That evening when my husband got home from work, they quickly had him drop his stuff so that he could play a couple games of 3 Little Pigs with them.  He, too, thought the game was cute and fun.

We have had this game for about a week now, and they girls continue to play it almost every day. It was big with all the kids (and adults) on Thanksgiving.  And, I know a few nieces and nephews who will be getting this game so that they can play it home whenever they want. :-)

Is your child a fan of the 3 Little Pigs, or are you a board game family looking for a cute new game to share at your next game night?  If so, why not consider picking up the 3 Little Pigs Game, which even includes a soft and squeezable Big Bad Wolf that actually puffs. Cute, right! :-)

Here is more about this game, from Tactic Games...

"Help the three little pigs on their adventures as they build their houses and hope to avoid the huffing and puffing, Big Bad Wolf, just like in the well-known fairy tale.

The 3 Little Pigs game combines skill and a dash of luck. Kids will love the soft and squeezable Big, Bad Wolf that actually huffs and puffs the pig's houses down!
