Mary Berry Shares Familiar Classics with Step-by-Step Instructions and Tips in Her New "Cooking with Mary Berry" Cookbook (Review)

This is the time of year I find myself heading to my upstairs closet and pulling out a bunch of my cookbooks.  I am always on the hunt come the holidays for new recipes to try. I grew up with an Italian grandmother who instilled early on an love of food in me.  She taught me family recipes that had been taught to her, and showed me how creating a meal rather than ordering out or making a boxed meal, was more gratifying, as you would sit and watch family and friends enjoy your homemade food.  And, now that I am older, I find myself wanting to get in the kitchen more to teach my girls about cooking and pass down my love of cooking to them.

Recently, I was sent a copy of "Cooking with Mary Berry". I have to admit, I had no idea who Mary Berry was, but when I asked my mother, she was quick to fill me and tell me all about this talented cookbook author, who is also a judge on "The Great Holiday Baking Show" and "The Great British Baking Show", in case you thought you recognized her from the photo above.  When I told my mom I was going to be reviewing her new cookbook, she said I had to share it with her when I was done, as she had been looking to get her hands on a copy of "Cooking with Mary Berry" when it arrived in stores back on October 24th.

This cookbook is filled with over 150 everyday recipes, that even novice cooks can make.  I don't know about you, but I am sometimes leery about purchasing cookbooks from non-American cooks, as I find many of the recipes include specialties or dishes you would find from the cook or baker's part of the world, and nothing you would make here in the states.  But, as I flipped through Mary Berry's cookbook I was happy to find recipes that while some may have British influence, would be welcomed by American cooks.  This cookbooks is broken down into sections including breakfast and brunch, soups, salads and appetizers; main dishes; sides; breads and baked goods; and desserts. So, if you like a cookbook filled with recipes for all occasions, then you will definitely want to check this cookbook out.

Like my other cookbooks, I read this like it was a book...cover to cover...as I put sticky note tabs on recipe pages I had to try, including Boston baked beans, spiced yams, tomato soup, beef pot roast with winter vegetables and even tiramisu, which is always a staple at my dessert table at the holidays.  I had a blast trying out these recipes from Mary Berry.  I loved how the cookbook was laid out, and how the recipes had colorful photos of each dish, along with easy to follow instructions.  And, each and every thing I made from this new cookbook, my family ate right up, and asked me to make again soon. :-)

I can't wait to try more recipes from this book, and serve up to family come Christmas dinner.  If you are a lover of cookbooks or know someone who is, then you will want to check out "Cooking with Mary Berry" which is now available in stores.
