This is my favorite time of year, not just because of the holidays and being able to more quality time with family and friends, but also because I get to be in the kitchen more whipping up soups and stews that warm the soul and everyone's bellies, especially on crisp fall nights.  While I have a box full of family soup recipes passed down through the generations that I love to make or add a unique spin to, I also look for soup cookbooks that usually come out this time of year.

So, when I heard about Betty Rosbottom's new cookbook Soup Nights: Satisfying Soups and Sides for Delicious Meals All Year, which arrived on store shelves on October 4th, I had to get my hands on a couple.  I had read previously that this cookbook was going to contain over 100 soup recipes, and I couldn't wait to read this cookbook, cover to cover like a book, and mark pages with recipes I wanted to try and share with family and friends.

Do you love soups?  There is nothing better than soup on a cold fall or winter day, especially when accompanied with a small sandwich (grilled cheese is my favorite).  My favorite food growing up was homemade chicken noodle soup.  I would even fake a cold just to get my mom to make soup for me.  Soup has always been a comfort food of mine, and I love being able to share my favorite comfort soups with my girls.

I received the Soup Nights: Satisfying Soups and Sides for Delicious Meals All Year cookbook last month as was quick to mark the pages with over a dozen soups I wanted to try.  The New England Corn and Lobster Chowder and Louisiana Seafood Gumbo were standouts and must try soups, as were Betty's chicken noodle soup and gazpacho.  As I flipped through the pages, I was happy to see recipes for sandwiches, salads and even desserts. Like I said there is nothing better than a hot bowl of soup served alongside a sandwich, and I loved being given ideas for perfect accompaniments to Betty's soups.

Each soup recipe has a color photo so you know what it looks like...and, I think it also makes you want to try it, as I found my mouth watering as I flipped through the pages and looked at the soups.  Be warned, don't do this on an empty stomach...you are just being cruel to yourself, as you will find your belly growling and you wanting soup bad. :-)

The sandwich, salads and dessert recipes also include color photos (not all though, but most) along with easy to follow recipe instructions.  You don't have to be a pro in the kitchen to whip up a tasty soup for your family.  And, with the help of Betty's soup book, you will be on your way to serving up delectable soups your family will be asking you to make time and again.  Even my two picky eaters were loving the soups I made, especially the chicken noodle soup one.
