Arriving on Blu-ray Combo Pack, DVD and Digital HD from Warner Bros. Home Entertainment This Tuesday -- Dolphin Tale 2 (Review)

Disclosure: I was sent a screener copy from the vendor in order to write up an honest review.  All views shared are mine and mine alone.

I have shared in the past how I am not usually a fan of sequel movies, as the second and additional releases never really live up to the first one.  But,  on a few rare occasions, sequels work and make for a great afternoon out at the movies with family, or a wonderful family night at home cuddled up on the couch together.  One movie that comes to mind and which will release tomorrow on Blu-ray, DVD and Digital HD, that was a sequel surprise to me was Dolphin Tale 2.

Did you see either this or the first Dolphin Tale movie, which stars Harry Connick Jr. and Ashely Judd, and is based on the true story of Winter the dolphin who learns to swim again thanks to a prosthetic?

If you saw either movie, then you know how wonderful and touching these movies are.  I tear up easily at movies like these and found myself crying from beginning to end and going through almost a whole box of tissues.  But, I didn't care, as these were tears of happiness as I watched Winter's amazing story play out on the big screen.

I was quick to pick up Dolphin Tale when it released on DVD and couldn't wait to see Dolphin Tale 2 when i heard the sequel was coming out.  Knowing how great the first one was and how much I loved it, I just wasn't sure how the second movie could top the first.  But, I did know that I would need tissues, and that I did.  With scenes likes this, I couldn't help but tear up, as I saw the relationship between Winter and Hope develop and blossom.

Here is more about the second movie, including the official movie trailer...

Synopsis:

"The inspiring true story of Winter isn’t over. Several years after receiving a prosthetic tail, Winter loses her surrogate mother, leaving her alone, grieving and unwilling to engage with anyone, even her best human friend, Sawyer. Worse, she may have to be moved from her home at the aquarium due to regulations requiring dolphins to be paired. When Dr. Clay Haskett and his dedicated team can’t find her a companion, it looks like they may lose their beloved Winter...until an unexpected turn of events brings them Hope."

--

When Winter came into the care of the folks at the Clearwater Marine Hospital, they were planning, like they do with all their injured animals, to nurse Winter back to health and then release back into the ocean.  Again, this second movie in the Dolphin Tale franchise is based on true events, which this time center around a new dolphin who is given the name Hope.

I don't want to give too much away in case you haven't seen the sequel.  But, I will say that this movie will also pull at your heartstrings and have you cheering on both Winter and Hope, as you wish for a happy ending.  Will they both be returned to the ocean or stay at the Clearwater marine Aquarium?  You'll just have to pick up this new release on Tuesday to find out.

And, be sure to keep an eye out for a special guest appearance by Bethany Hamilton, who will swim with Winter.  You may recognize the name, Bethany Hamilton, as she is the young surfer who lost her arm in a shark attack.  But, even after losing her arm, she didn't stop surfing and have gone on to be a motivational speaker and inspiration for children and adults.

I am so happy I gave Dolphin Tale 2 a chance when it arrived in theaters and am excited to be able to add it to my Dolphin Tale DVD collection.   We have already watched this movie a handful of times since receiving, as it has already become a family favorite, which will be enjoyed for years to come.
