Devotions for Beginning Readers, Crystal Bowman

In addition to reading fun stories that excite my daughters' imagination, I also make a point to include faith-based books, including devotional books.  But, when it comes to books about devotions it is hard to find ones geared towards my daughters' young age, that they can listen to and understand.  That was until I was sent "Devotions for Beginning Readers" by Crystal Bowman and Christy Lee Taylor.

What got me excited about sharing this book with my girls is that the authors use easy-to-understand vocabulary geared towards pre-kindergarten through second grade, so I knew I start sharing this book now, and continue using as the girls grow and learn to read on their own.  There is also a "Today's Word" that will teach little ones new vocabulary that they incorporate in their bedtime prayers, like food, talk, neighbor, hope, etc.

In addition to easy to understand text, this book is filled with cute illustrations done by Sophie Burrows, that bring each devotion to live and make reading this book more engaging to your child.  I try to read a few of the devotions each night and will talk about each and how the girls can use what they learned in their bedtime prayers and talks with God. The girls seem to be more into the open discussions we have afterwards, compared to other devotional books I have picked up and shared with them in the past.

Overall, this is a wonderful book of devotions for little ones just learning about God and how to talk to him.  It is a great foundation for introducing the love of God into your child's life, in such a way that they can related and understand.  I would highly recommend this hardcover book, not only as a great gift idea this upcoming holiday season, but as one for children beginning Bible school or beginning their journey learning about faith and God.
