The Handy Box

July The Handy Box

My husband is not a handyman, but he plays one on TV.  Just kidding!  He is far from being a handyman, but thinks of himself of a jack of trades, who can fix anything.  And, when a home problem arises, he is quick to grab his wrench and screwdriver (AKA his toolbox) and rolls up his sleeves, as he gets ready to tackle the problem --- which is never the case, as he either makes the problem worse, or I am ready with a contractor or "real" handyman on speed dial to swoop in and save the day.

While many women wish their husbands or boyfriends were handymen, as we all dream of major kitchen renovations or rooms being redone, this is hardly the case.  Instead, we are blessed with men who try their hardest to be handy.  One excuse my husband gives me all the time when he has a failed attempt at fixing something is that he doesn't have the right tools for the job.  Then, I ask what tools does he need, before hearing silence and watching him scratch his head, as he tries to think of the names of tools.

Well, thanks to a new subscription box service called The Handy Box, wanna be handymen/women, as well as women who love DIY projects around the house, will finally be able to add must have tools to their tool boxes and be ready to tackle around the house jobs with more confidence.

"The Handy Box is the first monthly subscription box designed for handy men and women, DIY’ers (do it yourself-ers), and those who enjoy projects around the home.  Each month, The Handy Box delivers useful tools and gadgets to help you complete projects of any size, whether you’re hanging a picture or renovating the bathroom.

The Handy Box Monthly Subscription Box

Please note that The Handy Box is not targeted at professional/experienced contractors or handy-persons and is designed for beginner-intermediate level people who are building their confidence with tools as well those who are building a simple home-use collection of tools and gadgets."

I surprised my husband with last month's box, and loved his reaction.  Like a kid on Christmas morning, his eyes grew big before lighting up.

One by one, he took out each of the five tools and gadgets that were included in the The Handy Man August box.  He examined them, learning what they were used for, including the features.

This is what was sent out to all The Handy Box subscribers for August (scroll down for your chance to win this same box as I am giving one away to one lucky reader):

August The Handy Box
Included in the August The Handy Box (valued at $57.45)
  • Multi-Purpose Hex Key
  • 6 in 1 Acetate Screwdriver
  • LED Flashlight with Telescopic
    Magnetic Pick Up Flex Head
  • 5-Piece Combination Wrench Set
  • Rubber Multi Opener

Go figure...out of all the tools included, he said his favorite and the one he was most excited to try out was the LED flashlight.  A flashlight?

I guess I am not having my kitchen cabinets or a new bathroom fixture put in any time soon, as he will be busy playing with his new telescopic magnetic LED flashlight. :-) *Insert me laughing uncontrollably as I type this. ;-)

My husband asked how the service worked, and if he was able to choose the tools he wanted.  He also wondered the pricing for each month's box, as the box we were sent had a retail value of $57.45, not including shipping.  I showed his The Handy Box website (click here to visit the website now), which describes in detail how the monthly subscription box works, as well as the monthly price which is only $24.95 + S&H.  You have the option of choosing a 1-month, 3-month or 6-month plan -- and, can cancel at any time.

He loved the concept and the idea of getting new tools and gadgets each month to not only try out, but to build his tool box into something that could actually come in handy when I am in need of a handyman to tackle home repairs.

It has been a couple of weeks since my husband received his sampling of tools and gadgets from The Handy Box, and he has made a point to try out each and every one.  Even if he created problems just to give each tool a try, he has been having fun becoming a handy man.  Only time will tell if he sticks with wanting to hone his so-called handyman skills.  But, at least he has a new 6-in-1 screwdriver to tote around. :-)

Looking for a gift idea this upcoming holiday season for that special man in your life, or that hard to shop for person?  Why not consider sending them a month's subscription (or even longer) of The Handy Box.  They don't have to be "real" handy to enjoy the tools and gadgets that are sent each month.  My husband can't wait to see what is in store for him with next month's Handy Box.
