My Thoughts:

How did you spend President's Day yesterday?  When we weren't breaking up ice dams on the roof and prepping for the snow today (ugh), I was happy to have my husband home for the day.  Usually he only gets major holidays off, so it was a surprise that this year they added President's Day to his time off schedule. :-)  The girls even surprised us and went down for an afternoon nap, leaving us with a couple of hours to kill.  We ended up watching "Killing Kennedy," which released on Blu-ray and DVD last week (Feb. 11th).  Did you see this movie in theaters, or had a chance to rent over the weekend?  If so, what did you think of it?  I am a fan of presidential movies, so was eagerly awaiting this movie release to Blu-ray and DVD, as we had missed it when it aired on the National Geographic Channel last fall. And, it included 80's heartthrob Rob Lowe, making it worth checking out whatever the story line. :-)

Can you believe that is has been 50 years since the assassination of Kennedy in Dallas, TX?  While I wasn't born yet, this was one president and event in history that was covered more often in school, and has been the center of many movies and television documentaries.  I even planned a trip to Dallas, TX 10 years ago just to visit the Kennedy memorials and walk through the building that Lee Harvey Oswald was hiding out in when he shot his gun and killed the President.  Still to this day, many people are still moved when they talk about President Kennedy and the shot heard round the world.  Older adults can tell you what they were doing when news broke of Kennedy being shot.  And, as I watched this movie, I couldn't help but get chills when this scene played out.  Even though I was not related to the Kennedy's, like other Americans, they did feel like family and his passing really hit home.

This movie, which originally aired on Nat Geo, was watched by 3.4 million viewers, will definitely sell Blu-ray and DVD copies, now that it is available to own.  This is one movie you will find yourself wanting to watch over and over again...not because of the sad story line, but to celebrate the life of Kennedy and be remembered of this sad event in history.  It was only fitting that my husband and I watched this movie on President's Day, and it led to a great discussion on President Kennedy and the Kennedy's family -- which in the US was like royalty.  All eyes have been on the Kennedy family through the years.

In addition to this TV movie to DVD/Blu-ray, this new release also contains some much see bonus features including both the Original and Extended Feature of "Killing Kennedy", "Camelot's End: The Making of 'Killing Kennedy'", "'Killing Kennedy': An Interview with Author Bill O'Reilly", "The Kennedy Mystique", "Virginia Is for Lovers: Tourism Commercial".  In addition this new release also offers subtitles in English, Spanish and French, making it viewable for a wider viewing audience.  I like movies like this, as my husband's family speaks Spanish and can rarely enjoy the same movies we are watching when they come to visit as Spanish subtitles are not available.  I know that my husband's father, a big history buff, would love to watch this movie when he comes to visit again.

If you love history movies, enjoyed this movie when it aired last fall on Nat. Geo, or are looking for a good movie to watch, Killing Kennedy is one movie you don't want to miss, and that would make a great addition to your movie library.  Even though we just saw this movie yesterday, including the bonus features, my husband and I are already talking about when we will watch it again.
