Zombie movies have become popular again, and now there is another DVD to add to the list, for fans of this popular genre.  The premise of this movie is easy -- Back in the day Stalin developed a lethal gas that was used to create a new race of super warriors at Stalingrad.  As time went by people forgot about this gas and race of super warriors.  That was, until a canister of the gas turns up in Bulgaria over seventy years later.  An explosion at the old warehouse where the canister of gas was found causes the gas to leak out.  What happens next?  Only a slew of zombies start creeping out of the building, and begin to go on a killing spree.

Synopsis:

"In World War II, Stalin created a top secret nerve gas, which went missing shortly after the Battle of Stalingrad. Over seventy years later, the horrific biochemical weapon resurfaces in modern day Bulgaria, turning the local inhabitants into frenzied mutants and causing the dead to rise from the grave. Amidst the chaos, US Special Forces Captain John McGahey (Paul Logan) and NATO Doctor Ana Bennett (Manal El-Feitury) must escape the infected zone before the Code Red alert is raised and everything is destroyed. Now it’s survival at all costs…"

My Thoughts:

My husband and I are fans of shows like the Walking Dead, but were disappointed in the overall storyline here.  The cast of characters really don't work that well, and this leads to the plot line going stale halfway through the movie.  And, unlike other high budgeted zombie movies and television shows, this movie lacked the special effects to make this film really catch your attention and keep you engaged.  I guess once you see a zombie movie, you have seen them all?

Just days after watching this DVD, my husband passed it along to a die-hard zombie fan at his work, and he came back the next day and said it was great.  I guess people have different views of these types of movies.  His friend didn't need all the special effects to make this movie enjoyable.  While he agreed the story line was sub par, he was engaged from start to finish, and couldn't wait to see what happened at the end.

So, does this movie turn into an all out Armageddon?  You will have to pick up a copy of this recent release to find you.
