Two DVDs – “Daniel’s Big Feelings” and “Life’s Little Lessons” Available from
PBS Distribution February 25th 2014

"PBS Distribution today announced it is releasing  DANIEL TIGER’S NEIGHBORHOOD: Daniel’s Big Feelings” and DANIEL TIGER’S NEIGHBORHOOD: Life’s Little Lessons” for the first time on DVDThe first TV series inspired by the iconic, award-winning Mister Rogers’ NeighborhoodDaniel Tiger’s Neighborhood from The Fred Rogers Company stars 4-year-old Daniel Tiger, son of the original program’s Daniel Striped Tiger, who invites young viewers into his world, giving them a kid’s-eye view of his life. As they closely follow and share Daniel’s everyday adventures, preschoolers ages 2-4 and their families learn fun and practical strategies and skills necessary for growing and learning. Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood airs Monday- Friday on PBS KIDS.  Each DVD will contain eight engaging episodes featuring what Fred Rogers knew all along: social and emotional competencies are the building blocks of doing well in school and in life.  Both “DANIEL TIGER’S NEIGHBORHOOD: Daniel’s Big Feelings” and “DANIEL TIGER’S NEIGHBORHOOD: Life’s Little Lessons each have an approximate running time of
100 minutes.  As an added bonus, “DANIEL TIGER’S NEIGHBORHOOD: Daniel’s Big Feelings” contains two bonus episodes, with a combined approximate running time of 25 minutes. Each DVD has a suggested retail price of $12.99. The DVDs will also join other newly released DANIEL TIGER’S NEIGHBORHOOD merchandise, including five new books from Simon Spotlight  and Tigertastic toys from Jakks Pacific.

To help boost invaluable skills among preschoolers, each episode of Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood consists of two engaging stories that center on a common early learning theme such as dealing with disappointment. One of the key ingredients that set the series apart is its groundbreaking use of catchy, musical strategies that reinforce each theme and that preschoolers and parents will both sing – and use! – together in their daily lives. Every story includes an “imagination moment” in which Daniel plays out a preschool fantasy set to music. Then, the day’s strategy is reprised in a full song at the end.

In “DANIEL TIGER’S NEIGHBORHOOD: Daniel’s Big Feelings,” four-year-old Daniel Tiger invites young viewers directly into his world, giving them a kid’s eye view of his life and making them feel like one of his neighbors. As they follow Daniel’s everyday adventures, preschoolers and their families learn fun and practical strategies and skills necessary for dealing with everyday experiences, like feeling left out or frustrated, being jealous of a friend, or understanding how someone else feels. Episodes on the “Daniel’s Big Feelings” DVD include: Duckling Goes Home/Daniel Feels Left Out/Daniel Gets Frustrated/Frustration at School/Daniel is Jealous/Jealousy at the Treehouse/Someone Else’s Feelings and Empathy at School. The bonus episodes on this DVD are Daniel Gets Mad and Katerina Gets Mad.

In “DANIEL TIGER’S NEIGHBORHOOD: Life’s Little Lessons,” four-year-old Daniel Tiger invites young viewers directly into his world, giving them a kid’s eye view of his life and making them feel like one of his neighbors. As they follow Daniel’s everyday adventures, preschoolers and their families learn fun and practical strategies and skills necessary for dealing with everyday experiences, like dealing with new experiences, taking turns with a favorite toy, and learning bathroom and daily routines. Episodes on this DVD include: Prince Wednesday Goes to the Potty/Daniel Goes to the Potty/Daniel Visits School/Daniel Visits the Doctor/Daniel Shares his Tigertastic Car/Katerina Shares her Tutu and Good Morning Daniel/Good Night Daniel.

My Thoughts:

If you have preschoolers in our family then you have probably seen the hit animated series on PBS Kids called Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood.  If you grew up watching Mister Roger's Neighborhood as a child, then you may remember some of the character of this new generation animated series, as it contains original characters from Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood in a fun animated way.  My girls can't get enough of Daniel Tiger and his friends, and make a point to watch the show daily, or watch episodes on the PBS Kids app.  If the catchy theme song doesn't pull you in, then you will fall in love with show when you sit with your child and see them getting excited about the show, while also learning lessons like sharing, getting along, going potty, etc.

And, on February 25th, you can pick up two new DVDs from this animated series to share with your child.  Filled with popular episodes from the show, these DVDs will teach children about feeling and how they can control their angry or show emotions in a positive way, as well as teach them about daily routines like brushing, going potty, etc.

I was recently sent the screener of the "Big Feeling" DVD and have to say that it couldn't have come at a better time.  I have been sharing on my blog about how the girls are going through the terrible 2's and 3's right now, and how they don't like to share and seem to be constantly fighting.  So much for being loving sisters.  I know, I know...in time this will pass and they will get along again.  But, right now, I can't see an end in site.  You would think we were training them for wrestling -- so much for being girly girls. :-)

We have been watching the episodes that make up this new Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood DVD, which includes:  Duckling Goes Home/Daniel Feels Left Out/Daniel Gets Frustrated/Frustration at School/Daniel is Jealous/Jealousy at the Treehouse/Someone Else’s Feelings and Empathy at School. The bonus episodes on this DVD are Daniel Gets Mad and Katerina Gets Mad.

I was happy to see the two bonus episodes as these were the ones I most looking forward to sharing with the girls.  They keep bursting out in fake tears and screaming when they get mad, in order to get attention or to get their way.  So, with these two episodes and the catchy song they have learned, they are learning to stop, take a deep breath and relax, in order for the feel better and not be mad any more.
Another great episode that I loved sharing with the girls was "Daniel is Jealous."  This really helped in talking to the girls further about feelings of jealousy.  Each episode contains a catchy song that helps reinforce the different feelings a person may feel and how they can control or show these feelings in a positive way.  I am so happy that a show like this is available for preschoolers, as it really does help teach important life lessons and skills to little ones, while also providing an entertaining storyline.  I can't wait to pick up the other DVD releasing on 2/25,“DANIEL TIGER’S NEIGHBORHOOD: Life’s Little Lessons,” as I hope to try and potty train the girls again, and they loved the potty training episodes and song that this new DVD contains.

So, if you have a Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood fan in your house, then you will want to pick up these two new DVDs when they become available on Feb. 25th.  They will make a great addition to your PBS Kids shows DVD collection you have. :-)
