- Daniel Tiger Imagination Treehouse
- w/ 3 figures (Daniel, O the Owl, Katerina Kittycat)
My girls were so excited to receive the Daniel Tiger's 3-in-one Treehouse toy from Tollytots the other day, and couldn't wait for me to take it out of the box so that they could play with it. If your children are fans of the PBS Kids hit animated series, Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood, based on the my childhood favorite, Mr. Roger's Neighborhood, then you probably know that this is the treehouse that both Katerina Kittycat and O the Owl both live in, with their parents -- hence the reason for the swing outside for O the Owl to sit on, and Katerina Kittycats bedroom with spinning stage.
Let me just warn you, that taking the pieces out of the box is a task in and of itself. I don't remember toys coming with so many ties and plastic locking pieces when I was a child. So, make sure you have a pair of scissors next to you, to help make getting the treehouse into your child's hand that much faster. My girls grew restless, as they watched me struggle to get every last piece out. :-) And, if you have little little ones at home, you will want to keep this treehouse and its pieces out of sight, as there are many little pieces that kids attach to the treehouse, that little ones may confuse with food and put in their mouths. Thankfully, my two girls are past that stage now. Instead, we just have to make sure that they keep the pieces together, so that we have a complete 3-in-1 Treehouse Playset.
When the girls finally got to play with the treehouse, they had a blast. For the first go around with the toy, they stayed entertained for a couple of hours. The only negative things I can find about the treehouse, and which I have also heard from other reviewers, is that some of the pieces don't fit together right. Take for instance the ladder to goes on the second floor. The piece on the treehouse that this slide is supposed to be attached to is a hexagon shape, while the piece on the slide is a circle. Circle and hexagon don't match last I checked. While the slide fits in slightly, the kids ended up resting it against the shelf area. A few occasions, when they got up quick to get toy scattered on the floor, the loose pieces, like the ladder would fall down -- a little disappointing to little ones who are eager to play, and not have mommy or daddy step in to fix.
This treehouse does offer sound, but it is not the theme song of the show, which Savannah had hoped for. Instead it is music for Katerina Kittycat to dance to, as you rotate her on the stage area of her bedroom. Besides the minor problems with pieces not fitting, the girls looked past this and have been getting a lot of use out of it. We have had this playset for a few days now, and each day they take turns or play together, interacting with the characters. And, when they are not playing with the 3-in-1 treehouse playset, they love toting around the plastic figures that come with this set.
Depending on your child's age, I would recommend this toy for children ages 4 and above. If you do decide to share with a younger Daniel Tiger fan, just be sure to keep track of the little pieces, and know you will have to help them with making the slide, ramp and ladder stay in place.
