My Thoughts:

I guess one of the perks of being sick besides lots and lots of ice cream, is being able to gather up all the pillows and blankets you can find in the house, make tents or just lounge around watch movies until you fall asleep.  Well, that is what we have been doing here since we were hit with another cold going around. Ugg.  Thanks to the folks New Kideo, the girls and I have been learning about Halloween and the Latin American holiday, "Day of the Dead," which falls on my birthday. :-)  While Savannah is just starting to understand the concept of holidays, all she knew of Halloween prior to watching this DVD set was that it was filled with pumpkins and lots and lots of candy.

This new DVD set, which includes 14 classic Halloween stories on 3 DVD's will surely delight children both young and old, as well as parents who are kids at heart.  From not-so-spooky stories to catchy sing-a-long songs, this is the perfect way to celebrate Halloween, all while learning about creativity through storytelling, music appreciation and even bravery.  I was not sure how Bella, being almost 2 yrs. old would handle the Halloween stories about witches, ghosts and skeletons.  But, out of the two, I think she enjoyed the stories more, as she sat there and intently watched each and every short animated story, while Savannah was busy setting up the tents.

When my husband came home the other day, Savannah was so excited, as she couldn't wait to talk to him about "Day of the Dead."  My husband is from El Salvador and used to celebrate this holiday when he lived back in his country.  You should have saw Savannah's eyes light up as he shared stories of wonderful celebrations of life for those who have passed on.  And, that night at the dinner table, Savannah turned me my husband and said that she wanted to start celebrating "Day of the Dead" and asked for his help.  She said she would help me cook and decorate the cupcakes, while my husband and Bella were in charge of decorations. :-)  I guess I will no longer be celebrating my birthday, but instead "Day of the Dead."

If you and your family are fans of Scholastic Storybook Treasures DVD's, then you will want to pick up this new release.  Great to watch prior to Halloween, as well as year round, it will provide hours of viewing enjoyable for the whole family.  I love how each story is just long enough to keep the kids engaged, while teaching about things like music appreciation and exploring your creative side.  If you home school, this would also make for a great addition to your curriculum.
