If you follow my blog and my gift guides, then you know that I am a big fan of personalized gifts. As I write this post right now, I am glancing up at our living room wall filled with canvas prints of the girls in varying sizes and frames, and on the coffee table in front of me, we have a handful of photo books I have created of each of the girls for each year of their life. I love being able to create personalized gifts like these, not only to help me remember firsts and memories of the girls growing up, but they also make wonderful gifts for grandparents, etc.
So, with Father's Day right around the corner, I knew that I had to include a sampling of unique personalized gifts in my gift guide, as many of you have comment on my previous gift guide posts about you also love these types of keepsakes. :-) After searching the Internet for a keepsake that I have not seen before, I stumbled upon Tiles and Smiles? Have you heard of them? Like the name suggests, these personalized gifts are tiles, which you can add a photo to. "This new art medium infuses inks directly into specially coated tiles. Because the image is infused into the surface and not on it, the archival qualities of this unique process are unparalleled. The colors are vibrant and the luminescence is breathtaking." In addition to photo tiles, Tiles and Smiles also offers personalized iPhone covers, dog plaques, sport photo tiles. So, depending on the occasion and who you are creating one of these unique keepsakes for, you are bought to find just the gift for them. :-)
I reached out to the folks at Tiles and Smiles, and was excited when they offered me the opportunity to review one of their 4.25" x 4.25" Photo Tiles, which retails for only $19.95. Like most other personalized keepsake sites, you, the customer, get to upload the photo(s) you want to appear on the tile (which you can choose the size), and customize to your liking, before completing the easy checkout order. Whenever I create photo gifts, I find the most difficult part of the whole ordering process is choosing which photos to use, as they all hold sentimental value and precious memories with me. With that being said, I ended up creating a unique collage of photos on the 4.25" x 4.25" Photo Tile sample I was being sent to review. I was able to get 9 photos on the tile, which looked like this:
Like I said, the checkout process was easy, as what the uploading of the photos and placing them on the tile. And, less than a week after ordering, the tile from Tiles and Smiles arrived at my door. I opted for the title without a stand, as I still didn't know how I wanted to display the keepsake. I was thinking to either use a coaster, or add to the coaster tray in the front. Or, if I ended up wanting to display it on a wall, it came with a plastic hanging hook on the back. Because I was creating this as a gift for my husband for Father's Day, I couldn't wait to see what he thought of it.
Before my husband arrived home, I showed the girls their photo collage tile, and they both got excited. They kept pointing out their photos and telling me about that particular photo (ie. where we were, what we were doing, etc.) And, when my husband came home that night, they girls were first to tell him about this unique keepsake gift. They pulled him over to the wall shelf, where I ended up displaying it. He took it down to look at and agreed that it was the best gift, as he has never seen anything like this, and he loved the photos I chose of the girls to make this one-of-a-kind photo girl. I thought he would leave the tile displayed on our shelf in the living room, but ended up taking it to work to have on his desk. Now, every day when he finds himself stressing out or needing a quick break, he looks at the smiles on the girls' face in the photos, and everything is better. :-) I don't know about you, but I can't help but smile when my girls smile. Even if I am having a bad day, once I see them smiling or hearing the infectious laugh, my mood changes, and I become happy. I love hearing that my husband feels the same way when he looks at this photo tile I created especially for him from Tiles and Smiles. The company name is spot on, as their tiles really do make you smile! :-)
