Not Just for Grown-ups Anymore: KFC Announces Availability of Li'l Bucket Kids Meals -- Review and #Giveaway

Disclosure: I was sent KFC chicken checks to try out these new children's meals from the folks at KFC, in order to write up an honest review.  The views shared are mine and mine alone.

KFC Li'l Bucket Kids Meal

"KFC recently introduced a meal that is sized just for their Li’ttlest fans, KFC’s Li’l Bucket Kids Meals™.  Packaged in a kid-friendly version of KFC’s iconic bucket, the Li’l Bucket Kids Meals come complete with a Kentucky Grilled Chicken® drumstick, green beans, a GoGo squeeZ™ applesauce on the go and a Capri Sun Roarin’ Water. (This meal has 210 calories, 4 grams of fat and 565 mg of sodium).

“We’ve found that our fans are looking for meals that appeal to moms and kids in terms of options and taste,” said Jason Marker, Chief Marketing Officer for KFC U.S. “By pairing our freshly-prepared chicken choices with delicious, convenient fruit and KFC’s famous sides, we’ve created a meal with balanced and kid-friendly options.”

KFC believes meals are an important time for families to spend together. Through strategic partnerships with kid-friendly brands throughout 2013, KFC’s iconic bucket will house activities designed specifically for KFC’s Li’ttlest guests. KFC launches the kid-sized bucket with activities like word puzzles and riddles that promote interactive play among parents and children from GoGo squeeZ, the 100% fruit, all natural, no-spoon, no-mess way to enjoy fruit on-the-go.

"This is the ‘thinking mom's’ kids meal - one that is equal parts balanced options and interactive fun for their kids," said Marker. "Through our partnership with GoGo squeeZ, kids will find a fun secret under each Li’l Bucket lid – an activity to enjoy with the whole family. We thought we’d give them some food for thought on the Bucket in addition to the tasty meal inside."

Li’l Bucket Kids Meals can be customized with other chicken choices, homestyle sides and drink options for just $3.99 plus tax (pricing and participation may vary). Diners have a choice between a Kentucky Grilled Drumstick, four Original Recipe® Bites, an Extra Crispy™ Tender or a Chicken Little. See www.kfc.com/nutrition for meal choices and full nutritional information."

The kind folks at KFC recently send along chicken checks (their version of a gift certificate), so that we could try out their new Li'l Bucket Kids meals with the girls.  We were hoping to make it to our local KFC sooner, but the girls have been sidelined with yet again another head cold and virus.  So, it wasn't until last week that we were able to try out these new kid's meals from KFC.  And, I have to say, it was well worth the wait, as the girls had a blast eating from their Li'l Bucket Kids meals, while Daddy and I reached for our chicken from the big bucket KFC is known for.

I was pleasantly surprised to learn that the Li'l Bucket Kids meals are only 210 calories, with 4 grams of fat and 565 mg of sodium.  While the sodium may be a little high and did leave the girls' thirstier than usually, this was the one kid's meal that they ate everything.  Usually when we dine at other take-out establishments, they zero in on the french fries and leave the other food on their plate.  But, when I put their Li'l Buckets in front of them, they couldn't stop smiling, as they reached in and pulled out either their chicken leg or boneless chicken strip, along with their juice and apple sauce pouch.

Kids will love customizing their Li'l Buckets by choosing from the following options:

And, when they were done eating, Arabella and Daddy colored her Li'l bucket, while Savannah and I played with the games that are included on the outside of the package, as well as the sticker puzzle that came with the kid's meal.  We will definitely be stopping by KFC again to get these new kid's meals, as well as their new boneless chicken (Yum!), as they would make for great picnic lunches, or a great on-the-go or last minute lunch or dinner option.

If you and your family are fans of KFC, and haven't had a chance to stop in to your local KFC store to try these new Li'L Bucket Kids meals, or their other new menu items, you definitely have to add this to your to-do list.  The kids will love getting their own little bucket, while you will love what is included with the meal, which costs only $3.99 -- making dinner with the kids that much more affordable! :-)
