New to DVD and Blu-Ray -- The Oranges, Starring Hugh Laurie (Review)

My Thoughts:

Ever heard of this movie?  I hadn't until I received a press release about it last month.  I have been a huge fan of Hugh Laurie's from his run as House, on the popular television series by the same name, as well as Leighton Meester, who played Blair on Gossip Girl (one of my guilty pleasure shows).  And, after watching the trailer, it looked like a fun movie to watch.

So, this past weekend, while the girls were sick with the virus going around, and up most nights, this gave my husband and I time to watch movies, as we rocked them to sleep.  If you are wondering The Oranges is?  This is the neighborhood the cast of characters live in.  It was crazy to see neighbors being so close, and spending time together like they were family.  Not a day went by that they didn't get together to run, enjoy a drink or meals together, or talk.  Do you live in a neighborhood like this?  In the neighborhood where I live, even though we can see our neighbors' houses from the window, we only wave in passing.  I never had the neighbors come to greet us when we moved in, nor have had a conversation with them.  When watching this movie, I wondered what it would be like if we were like the two families in the movie -- minus the affair. :-)

I couldn't believe that Hugh Laurie's character got together with Leighton Meester's character.  Their age difference of what seems 20+ years made the early kissing scenes a little uncomfortable to watch.  Now I am all for love and romance, and us not being able to choose who we fall for, but just seeing these characters, from popular shows I used to watch and love, kiss, felt awkward.  I guess this is how the characters' families felt when they learned about the affair and then relationship.

Overall, this movie flowed nicely, and had a good story line.  It also included comedic bits throughout, which had my husband and I laughing.  And, once the movie was over, we both agreed that it was a good movie, and one we didn't expect to like as much as we did.  We can see ourselves watching this again.  The bonus features, which include a behind the scenes look at The Oranges, were fun to watch, and are worth checking out.

So, if you are looking for a movie to watch this weekend, this is one movie you don't want to overlook.
