Are looking for something fun and different to do with you mom this Mother's Day? Have you ever considered a in-house movie night, with pampering? I remember growing up, I would look forward to the few times a month my father would take my brothers to the movies at night, leaving my mom and I home to watch movies, do each others hair, paint our nails, etc. My mom would even sit and let me apply makeup to her -- which I thought looked good -- even though she looked like a clown. She was a good sport, as I expect I will be down the road when the girls and I get to have spa movie nights in our house. :-)
Recently, I was sent the new release, The Guilt Trip on Blu-ray/DVD combo, along with a spa basket to share with my mom from the folks at M80.com. I have worked with them on various home entertainment releases, and love how they oftentimes include movie swag, which makes movie night even more fun. With this new release, they asked me to watch The Guilt Trip with my mom, and share the spa basket with her, as a Mother's Day gift. I thought this would be a fun, and would remind us both of when I was little and we would watch movies together. When I told her about it, she was just as excited as I was to visit and watch the movie with me.
So, this past weekend, my parents came to visit and spend time with the girls, and for my mom and I to recreate our movie nights, like I remembered them. Even though I didn't apply makeup to her like I did in the past, we did have a great time gabbing and painting our nails, and trying out the hand lotion and other products from the lovely Guilt Trip spa basket I surprised her with. :-) Savannah had been waiting all afternoon to surprise Nana with the gift basket, as she paced the kitchen floor. She knew Nana would like it, as she kept saying, "Pretty surprise basket for Nana."
And, when my mother showed up, Savannah waited for her in the kitchen. She then, yelled, "Surprise," as she took the basket out from behind her back. As I loaded up the movie, Savannah and my mom went through the goodies in the spa basket. My mother let Savannah brush her hair, with the brush included. I couldn't help but stop and watch them interacting together, as it reminded me of time spent together with my mom when I was a child. :-)
Did you see The Guilt Trip when it was in theaters? I remember seeing the movie trailer online, and hoping to see the movie, but, like many other movie releases, missed it during its theater run. So, I had been waiting to see it when it arrived on Blu-ray/DVD. My mother also missed it when it was in the theater, and was excited to see it. We settled in on the couch, and for an hour and half, we had a blast spending time together. We laughed so hard, we were crying during some parts. There were a few scenes that reminded me of my mom, which made watching this movie even more fun.
Would you be up for a cross country road trip with your mom? I think I could do a few days, but after that I think we would get on each other nerves. :-) This movie follows Seth Rogan's character, Andy, and his mom, Joyce, played by Barbara Streisand, as they take a road trip together. Moms always look out for their children, no matter how old they are, and like to share their opinions or give advice. I know for me, depending the advice my mom tries to give, it begins to drive me crazy at times -- like how to put the girls to bed and what to feed them. And, in this movie, Joyce begins to get on Andy's nerves, as she offers up advice on his dating life, and his product pitch for an eco-friendly cleaning product he had created, and is driving cross country promoting to vendors. As they journey together on their road trip, feathers are ruffled and a few confrontations are had. But, in the end, they hug it out and part on good times. A lot happens on their 3000 mile road trip, which I will not spoil for you. Just know that when you pair Rogan with Streisand, you are in for laughs.
This is definitely one movie worth picking up and watching, and even sharing with your mom. And, with a wrapped and ready Target exclusive Blu-ray, which includes a card with sound and flower bouquet pop up, you can't go wrong with surprising mom with The Guilt Trip in this special package. The card, included with the Target wrap and ready to give Blu-ray/DVD reads "If mothers were flowers, you'd be the one I'd pick." I know for me, I wouldn't want another mom, and am so glad she is here to enjoy my daughters.
Happy Mother's Day to all the moms and grandmothers out there!
