Hood® Encourages New Englanders to Indulge Smarter with the Launch of Greek Frozen Yogurt (Review)

Disclosure: I was sent samples from Hood in order to write up an honest review.  The views shared are mine and mine alone.

New England’s #1 frozen yogurt brand “goes Greek” with four rich and creamy lowfat frozen yogurts

"Hood®, the leading dairy brand in New England, has entered the fast-growing Greek frozen yogurt market with the introduction of its Greek Frozen Yogurt. Hood Greek Frozen Yogurt combines lowfat frozen yogurt with delectable ingredients like raspberry swirls, granola crunch and chocolate chips, giving New Englanders a smarter way to indulge, particularly during the warm weather months.
“With the popularity of Greek yogurt continuing to grow, we think consumers will be eager to try this refreshing new frozen treat. Hood’s rich and creamy Greek Frozen Yogurt offers delicious lowfat flavors that are high in protein, giving New Englanders a smarter way to indulge.”
Made with live and active cultures, each serving of Hood Greek Frozen Yogurt packs five grams of protein. Different from traditional frozen yogurt, Greek Frozen Yogurt features a richer and creamier texture and taste to match its higher protein content.

“Greek Frozen Yogurt is an exciting addition to the Hood family of frozen dairy products,” said Sarah Barow, Hood spokesperson.

Available in quart size containers, Hood Greek Frozen Yogurt is available in four different flavors:

Blueberry Greek Frozen Yogurt
  • Blueberry – blueberry lowfat Greek frozen yogurt
Double Chocolate Chip Greek Frozen Yogurt
 Honey Vanilla Greek Frozen Yogurt
 Raspberry Granola Greek Frozen Yogurt
  • Raspberry Granola – vanilla lowfat Greek frozen yogurt with raspberry swirl and granola crunch
“Hood Greek Frozen Yogurt is ideal for consumers looking for a better-for-you treat, without sacrificing taste,” said Elizabeth M. Ward, M.S., R.D. and the Hood Answer Mom™. “The five grams of protein in each serving make Hood Greek Frozen Yogurt a smarter indulgence for today’s health-conscious consumer. It also is a great base ingredient for smoothies, as well as many other delicious recipes.”

 My Thoughts:

Being from Boston, and living in the New England area all my life, I have grown up with Hood products.  Every birthday and holiday, my family would stop up on Hood frozen novelty products and ice cream.  My favorite to this day are their Hoodsies, with their ice cream sandwiches a close second. :-)  But, now I can add their new line of Greek Frozen Yogurt to my list for Hood favorites.

After having been sent a gallon of their Double Chocolate Chip and Raspberry Granola recently for sampling and review, I couldn't get over the smooth, creamy taste of this new frozen treat from Hood.  I am not usually a frozen yogurt fan, even though I love all the different Greek yogurts available in the dairy aisle.  But, with my goal to lose the extra baby weight this year, I am always looking for healthy alternatives to some of my favorite guilty pleasures like ice cream.  Out of the two flavors sent for review, I have to saw my personal favorite was the Double Chocolate Chip, as I a chocolate lover.  I especially liked the additional of the chocolate chips into the mix.  It seemed like every spoonful I took had an abundance of chocolate chips, making for an extra chocolaty treat.  If I hadn't know I was sampling Greek Frozen yogurt, I don't think I would have guessed it, as it was so rich and delicious, you wouldn't think it was also good for you, too!

In addition to scooping the different Green Frozen Yogurt from Hood out of the container and into a bowl to enjoy, I have also been using this Greek frozen yogurt in place of vanilla ice cream for smoothies.  Here is a recipe from the Hood website for a delicious Blueberry Blast Smoothie I have been making for the girls and I -- http://www.hood.com/Recipes/recipeDetail.aspx?id=3512&lb=3511 -- but have been substituting the Raspberry Granola and fresh or frozen raspberries.  And, just this past weekend, I picked up graham crackers and layered a scoop of the Double Chocolate Chip lowfat Greek Frozen Yogurt from Hood into the center, then wrapped and placed in the freezer for a few hours to chill.  And, come the evening, I had a great, healthy frozen treat to share with the family as our after-dinner treat.

So far, I have only tried the two samples sent for review, but have the others on my shopping list to pick up the next I go to the market.  I am especially looking forward to trying the Blueberry low fat Greek Frozen Yogurt from Hood.  Mmm, I am getting hungry just thinking about it.  It will be nice to see how the Blueberry Blast smoothie tastes when I use this flavor, along with fresh blueberries.  The raspberry version I have been making has been a hit with the family, and I know this one will too. :-)

I wonder what other recipes I can add this new low fat Greek Frozen Yogurt to?  I can see it going well with an apple crumble or on top of a freshly baked pie slice. :-)  What do you think?  Have any suggestions on how I can incorporate this new frozen treat into a dessert?
