Decorate Your Easter Eggs with Wikki Stix This Year -- And, Don't Worry About a Messy Clean-Up (Review)

Now that my daughters are getting into doing arts and crafts and hands on activities, I am always on the lookout for safe, non-toxic supplies to use with them.  This is how I stumbled across Wikki Stix last month, and fell in love with their Egg Decorating Kit and Easter Fun Favors.

What are Wikki Stix made of?
Wikki Stix Craft and Teaching Tools
"Wikki Stix are made of hand-knitting yarn enhanced with a microcrystalline food-grade, non-toxic wax, the kind used in bubble gum and lipstick. They do not contain latex, gluten, nor peanut or other nut oils or byproducts which makes them an ideal creative activity toy for children with allergies.

How do they work?

Simply stated…they stick! No glue, no paste, no mess. Just press them down with light fingertip pressure and they will adhere to almost any smooth surface. They are also easy to peel up and reposition so “mistakes” virtually disappear, which helps build self-confidence. There is no preparation, no clean-up, no mess. Press ‘em down, peel ‘em off… it’s that simple!

A few more details

Wikki Stix do not break or tear apart, but cut easily with scissors. Wikki Stix conform to all U.S. Consumer Safety Standards including ASTM D-4236 and F-963, as well as the European Standard BS5665/EN71.

Easter Egg Crafts for kids

I first tried the Wikki Stix out with Savannah to see how she liked it, and if she could decorate the Easter Eggs with it.  We started off by having her decide how she would mold the Wikki Stix to stick to the eggs, and she laid out her design on the black and white egg activity sheet that came along with the kit.  It took a few tries for her to get the hang of how to mold and bend the Wikki Stix to form shapes.  But, once she got the idea of this unique craft toy, she was hook -- as was I.

Savannah and I ended up spending three hours the first go-round playing with the Wikki Stix and ended up decorating 2 dozen hard boiled eggs and about 10 plastic eggs.  While Savannah was decorating the plastic eggs, I played with the Wikki Stix to shape the letters of her name, and used this bonding time as a way to also practice the alphabet and spelling her name.

I was surprised at how Savannah stayed engaged for the entire time, and only got fussy at the end, when I told her it was time to clean up and get ready for dinner.  If I let her, she could have continued on, creating and imagining all the things she could make with the different colored Wikki Stixs.  :-)  And, just yesterday, during yet again another snow day here in New England, I had all the kids (my two girls and my nieces and nephew) at the table, playing with the Easter Fun Favors from Wikki Stix.  Savannah came them a quick crash course in how to use the Wikki Stix, and then they were off, left to get creative and make unique and fun Easter egg decorations, creatures, and other moldable structures.  Just like the first time I used Wikki Stix with Savannah, the kids stayed busy for a few hours -- which was great. :-)

My nieces and nephew had never seen or played with Wikki Stix before, and couldn't stop talking about how cool this US-made product was.  They thought this was a better way to decorate Easter eggs, compared to just dipping eggs in colored dye.  I ended up sending them home with a handful of Easter Fun Favors, so that they could continue the fun of creating with Wikki Stix at home.  And, that night, I received a call from their mom letting me know how much fun they were having creating art with this craft toy.  She asked where she could get more, as she loved watching them use their imaginations and play with this multi-purpose toy.

Even though Easter will come and go, Wikki Stix will continue to be one of our go-to craft toys to play with, as it is so versatile and oh so fun to play with.  Arabella loves to get in on the fun (under my supervision), as she rolls the strips into a ball. :-)  So, if you are not a fan of the messy egg decorating kits that are available, but still want to have fun decorating eggs with the kids, why not consider picking up the Wikki Stix Egg Decorating kit today, for only $7.99.  And, until 3/22, when you buy 1 kit, you get one free -- which is a great deal. :-)

Once the family is ready to eat the hard boiled eggs, you simply remove the Wikki Stix from the egg, and it is ready to reuse. :-)  How great is that?!  No messy clean up, safe for the environment and a reusable craft that the kids will want to play with again and again.
