My Thoughts:

With this past weekend's blizzard, we found ourselves staying indoors and catching up films I needed to review.  One of these films was "Back to the Sea" from VIVA Pictures.  I was going to wait to review it as it doesn't come out until April 2nd on DVD.  But, Savannah noticed it on the stairs where I have my DVDs to review and thought it was Nemo.  When I told her it wasn't Nemo, but another cute fish named Kevin, she looked at me funny.  She had no idea who I was talking about.  When I tried to explain that there were other movies about fish made, she still looked confused.  So,the only way I thought that I could explain this better to her, was to watch the movie with her. So, after lunch and when my husband came in my shoveling the decks, I put this movie on to watch, as we all snuggled together under warm blankets.

My husband had no idea what we were watching. I didn't want to tell him, as I knew that he would not want to watch it, as he is a true Finding Nemo fan, and thinks other animated fish movies can't compare.  As the movie began, I looked over to him and noticed he was not excited about the film.  But, as soon as Kevin began talking and the girls saw all the beautiful fish in the sea, he couldn't help but stay and watch (at least for the girls sake). :-)

This movie deals with friendship and finding and becoming a friend with someone in an unlikely place/situation.  It also shows the importance of family, which I love in these types of films.  From start to finish this beautifully animated movie kept both my daughters attention, as it was filled with action and laughs.  Even though my husband never truly got into the film, I have to say that I was surprised that I liked it so much.  I think it was because the voices of the fish were of famous actors I enjoy seeing on the big screen, including Christian Slater, Tim Curry, Tom Kenny and Mark Hamill.

The one surprise about this DVD was that it didn't contain any special features. I was expecting a sing along, interviews with the actors who lent their voices to the character, or even printable activity sheets -- but, nothing.  Other than this, I have to say that is a fun animated movie that young children will enjoy, and that can be enjoyed by the whole family.  Just don't try to compare it to Finding Nemo, as it will fall short.

Disclosure: I was sent a copy of this DVD from the vendor in order to write up an honest review. The views above are mine and mine alone.
