This past Monday I shared my Spotlight on Mom interview with Tina Pang Mayer with you. If you missed it, click here to read it now - http://www.inspiredbysavannah.com/2012/11/edit-spotlight-on-mom-tina-pang-mayer.html. Today, I wanted to share more about Tina's dolls and her fun pen pal program she offers young girls through her site.
So, what is PenPalGirls and how does this doll retailer differ from others out there?
"We offer high-quality 18 inch doll and doll related products that are designed to fit other 18" doll brands like American Girl® (Mattel®), Favorite Friends (Madame Alexander®), Our Generation® (Target®), Journey Girls (Toys R Us®), and Carpatina Dolls. With doll sized products like dim sum from China or 18 inch doll sized wedding dress inspired by the Royal Wedding of Kate & William, we provide unique products that fulfill our founder's vision of creating a line that celebrates a diverse range of cultures from around the world. We also offer a pen pal program where girls have the option to ask our dolls or real girls like them about her stories; a way of connecting girls with someone with unique heritages and stories like them. The PenPalGirls experience is inspired by real people and real lives—it is a celebration of girls from all around the world."
I haven't seen the PenPalGirls dolls up close, but was sent a couple of their handmade accessories for review, which included their Heart Doll Candy and Dim Sum Playsets -- see below for pictures and descriptions of each:
The heart doll candy box is a 7 piece set and contains 5 chocolates, a heart box, and a heart lid with intricate flowers. The chocolates are made with a soft felt material and filled with plush stuffing for dolls food. The doll candy are embroidered with detailed stitching. It's a yummy, doll candy play set for any 18" doll!
The doll Dim Sum Set contains 11 pieces - 3 of each dish, a bamboo steamer, and a bamboo steamer lid. All items are made of a soft felt material and filled with plush stuffing. This intricate dolls food set is a wholesome alternative to plastic doll food toys.
Let me first say, that when I received it, I didn't know what it was. But, then when I visited the PenPalGirls website and saw that they were handmade doll food, I thought what a novel idea. I had never seen anything like this before, and thought it was a great touch for the PenPalGirls dolls and other dolls your children may have. These foods go hand in hand with this week's Spotlight Mom, Tina Pang Mayer, and her vision "to develop a company and product line for young girls everywhere to learn about their own culture and others throughout the world, and connect with girls in other countries." She has achieved this not only with her affordable couture line of dolls, but also with the fun accessories, clothes and educational add-ons available through PenPalGirls website including GameOn, FlyPPG and Pen Pals. When young girls are not playing with their unique dolls, which will not only provide hours of enjoyment when played with, but will also make children aware of the cultural differences of others all around the world.
With my daughters being half Latina, I love stumbling upon and finding dolls and toys that will show them that they are unique and should be proud of their differences, all while teaching them about the cultural differences of others. I can't wait to pick up a couple of the PenPalGirls dolls for my daughters to play with, as well as some of the fun clothing and accessories. They just love the doll food samples I was sent to review, and choose to play with these sets over the plastic food, when they are playing their dolls.
So, with the holidays right around the corner, why not check out the affordable line of couture dolls for your little one, from PenPalGirls? They will love learning the stories about each of the dolls, as well as playing the online games, etc. Who knows, maybe these dolls will spark an interest in connecting with a pen pal across the world. I had a blast as a child writing to my pen pals, and hope to share in this fun with my daughters when they get older.
