Welcome in Spring with a Good Book -- Hop, Skip and Jump, Maisy! By Lucy Cousins (Review)

February 2012
ISBN: 9780763658137
Ages 2 to 5
16 Pages

Summary:

Get kids moving with Maisy! Just pull the tabs, and your favorite mouse will show off fun actions that children will want to imitate.

My Thoughts:

Out of the five books I was sent from Candlewick Press to review for March, this is by far Savannah's favorite one.  She loves the interaction this book provides.  After I read the short sentences on each page, Savannah is then able to pull and push tabs to make the illustrations come to life.  This is the first book we have read with Maisy, but will not be the last.

Overall, this was a cute story, showing how Maisy gets up and gets moving, from the Maisy gets up, until the time Maisy goes to bed.  Savannah's favorite page is the one where Maisy does a somersault, with a pull of a tab. In addition to bringing Maisy to life on the pages, young children will also learn a little science and see what other animals perform similar actions like stretching, rolling, jumping, etc.  With the bright and colorful illustrations, your children will want to have you read this book over and over again to them (like Savannah has).  And, when they pull and push the tabs, their faces will light up, as they get excited about being able to to bring the story to life.

With Easter right around the corner, this would be a great book to add to your young child's Easter basket.   I can't wait to share the other Maisy books with Savannah and see her get excited about the pull and push tabs, all while learning about science and staying active through movement.

Disclosure:  I was sent a copy of this book by the publisher, in order to write up an honest review.  The views above are mine and mine alone.
