Valentine's Day Gift Giving Guide: Gifts for All -- 1% Solution for Work and Life: How to Make Your Next 30 Days the Best Ever by Tom Connellan (Book Review and Giveaway)

Summary:

If you're like most of us, you've probably noticed that the difference between top athletes seems to be very small - but you've perhaps not observed exactly how small those differences are.

Curious about this, Tom did some research and found exactly how small the differences are. In looking at the Men's Downhill in the 2006 Winter Olympics, for example, he found that the difference between a Gold Medal and no medal was 1.08 seconds or .9%.

And no matter where he looked, he found pretty much the same thing. The difference between Gold and no medal averaged about 1%. The difference between Gold and 10th place? About 2%.

Since chances are you're not going to compete in the Olympics, the real question is what can you learn that you can use in whatever you do. And that's where Tom comes in. He found three things at the core of that 1% difference - three things you can use to create a comparable level of performance.

You can read the first chapter here: http://www.freado.com/read/10636/the-1-solution

Here are just a few of the tools you’ll find in The 1% Solution

► Why trying to motivate yourself to get more done doesn’t work except in the very short term and what you can do that works all the time. (Pages 27-29)
► What to do about the unseen force that seems to hold you back at times. (Page 41)
► How using the ABC’s of peak performance will change the way you look at almost everything and release a flood of motivation within 90 seconds. (Page 99.)
► How to change your mood from down to up in less than 30 seconds. (Page 103)
► How you can tap the easy-to-use performance cycle that separates the top one percent from the rest of the pack. (Page 114)

Here’s what people are saying about The 1% Solution

My Thoughts:

Would you believe me if I was to tell you it only takes just 1% more effort to be successfully?  This is the premise of a book I recently read, 1% Solution for Work and Life: How to Make Your Next 30 Days the Best Ever by Tom Connellan.  In the book, the author explains the 1% solution, and how this can be apparent in sports.  The author also explains the 1% solution by telling the story of a man, who like many of us, feels stuck knowing he can do better, and how he begins his journey of turning around his life, just 1% more at a time.  For example, the man in the story learns how to keep engaged even when things do not go right the first, second, or third time, by understanding that motivation comes by giving just 1% more of your time when it comes to tackling your action plan. I love the fact that the 1% solution is presented as a story rather than just a list of theories and to do’s one must follow to improve in life.  And, after reading this book, I felt a relief in knowing that it really only takes 1% more time to turn your life around, whether it applies to your career, family, finances, etc.  This book is a quick read, with only 160 pages,  It will keep you engaged, and by the time you are finished reading the book, you will be rearing to go and improve your life, through the tools you just learned.  I invite you to share your stories about your own successes.  Do you believe it only takes 1% more effort to be a winner in life?
