Recently, I read a brand interview over at Branding You Better, spotlighting a NY-Based graphic artist turned clothing designer, Chris Kihlstrom.  Click here to read the interview in its entirety.  

Through the interview, I learned that Chris began Ascensionary back in August of 2005, as a side business to his full-time freelance graphic arts work that he does for other apparel companies in NYC.  For Chris’ apparel line, he adds his own artwork to each shirt.  Just look at some of the shirts that Chris is selling through his website:



As you can tell by the quality and design nature of these t-shirts, Chris is going to be in business for a long time, as these are the types of shirts that are continually trending with all ages and sexes.  This is good because Chris’ goal for 2012 is to continue to grow his brand , make more connections, increase internet sales and sell to larger retailers.  I wish him the best of luck with his business!

Chris sent me the following long-sleeved shirt from his apparel line, which I had my husband wear and provide his feedback on.

Now, I have enlisted my husband’s help in the past for t-shirt reviews, so he had a good sense on how this shirt compared to others he has worn.  First off, he loved the graphic design.  The detail of the eagle and shield were amazing.  I think I saw him looking at all graphic art design for what seemed like 5 minutes.  When he finally got around to wearing it, he said is was so lightweight and comfortable to wear. As for the design on the front, he said the shirt didn’t feel stiff at all, unlike others he has worn with designs on the chest. 

At first, he wanted to keep it and not wear it, as he couldn’t get over the artwork, but I told him he needed to provide an honest review for me.  And, after wearing it, he continues to look for it week in and week out, as it has become one of his favorite shirts.  I think this is in part because whenever he wears it, he get compliments from people, who admire the artwork.
