Product Review: Miles Outside Dehydrated Organic Baby Food

A dehydrated baby food that is easy to prepare, light to carry, and above all... nutritious and organic!

I know I keep talking about my recent experience with Hurricane Irene, but I was able to try out many of the products sent to me for review as a result of not having power and needing to stay out of state with family with my daughter.  During the storm, we lost power as soon as the winds began to blow.  As a result, we limited our trips to the refrigerator to try and keep it cold, as Savannah's formula and foods were inside.  But, after a day without power, we ended up tossing all the food we had stocked up on, including her formula.  As a result, I had to go out and buy more formula, which became a headache, as the Gerber Gentle ready-to-use formula was being discontinued, and all the local stores were out of it.  I had been trying to switch Savannah over to whole milk, but she has been unwilling.  So, with only one 32 oz. bottle to last us until we headed to MA to stay, I ended up trying the Miles Outside  samples I was sent with both the formula and with water.  Surprising, Savannah took the food when I used just water.  This was such a big help, as I was able to substitute her morning oatmeal with a package of Miles Outside dehydrated baby food, and then provide her with healthy and organic snacks throughout the day, by simply adding water to the convenient and ready to serve packets I was sent to sample.

I was sent a sampling of each of the varieties Miles Outside offers.  These include:  Apple Harvest (Certified Organic Apples and 100% All Natural Rolled Oatmeal), Monkey Meal (Organic Bananas and 100% All Natural Rolled Oatmeal), Monkey Pudding (Organic Bananas and Organic Puffed Millet), Picnic Outside (Organic Apples and Certified Organic Puffed Millet) and the Day Hiker (Certified Organic Apples, Certified Organic Bananas and Certified Organic Puffed Millet).

What is millet you ask?

Millet is one of the oldest foods known to humans and possibly the first cereal grain to be used for domestic purposes. It is mentioned in the Bible, and was used during those times to make bread.

Millet is highly nutritious, non-glutinous and like buckwheat and quinoa, is not an acid forming food so is soothing and easy to digest. In fact, it is considered to be one of the least allergenic and most digestible grains available and it is a warming grain so will help to heat the body in cold or rainy seasons and climates.

Millet is tasty, with a mildly sweet, nut-like flavor and contains a myriad of beneficial nutrients. It is nearly 15% protein, contains high amounts of fiber, B-complex vitamins including niacin, thiamin, and riboflavin, the essential amino acid methionine, lecithin, and some vitamin E. It is particularly high in the minerals iron, magnesium, phosphorous, and potassium.

Savannah loved each and every variety, but I think her favorite was the Monkey Pudding, as she ate this right up and always wanted more.  And, once we were in MA with electricity, I was able to microwave her food for 30 seconds for a warm meal.

How to Use Miles Outside Organic?

Just add filtered water, breast milk or formula, stir for 30 secs and enjoy!

You can also microwave for a warm yummy snack!

Miles Outside dehydrated organic baby food is great for on the go moms, or if you want to offer your child a healthy and organic meal.  I have not seen any other product on the market like this, and will definitely be buying more for Savannah and her sister on the way, as well as include it in baby shower gifts I give my family and friends.  I couldn't stop raving about it the other day at one of our mommy and me playgroups.  I am so happy I stumbled across Miles Outside, and can't wait to spotlight the mommy behind this amazing product in October, Courtney Washmuth.  So, don't forget to check back here on October 10th for my interview with Courtney.
