Product Review and Giveaway: TruKid, Healthy Skin, Hair and Sun Care Products for Kids

Closed.  And, the winner is:  1955 Nurse

I recently had the opportunity to try out 3 products from the TruKid, healthy skin, hair and sun care products for kids product line.  Below are the products that I was sent for review, including a brief description of each and their ingredients (taken from TruKid) website, along with my thoughts on each product.  If you have never heard of or tried TruKid products, I hope you learn more about this great brand of healthy skincare for kids through my review, and give them a try with your children.  I am picky about what products I use with my daughter, as we both have sensitive skin, but after trying these fun products, I am definitely a fan and would recommend to other moms who are looking for new, safe and healthy skin, hair and sun care products for their children and families.

The first product I sampled was TruKid's All Natural Silly Shampoo:

Product Description:

TruKid Silly Shampoo is a mild, safe cleanser for kids' sensitive skin and hair that effectively removes surface oil, and dirt without stripping natural oils. Lightly scented with TruKid essential oil blend, there are no parabens, SLS, artificial colors or fragrances in this biodegradable formula. 8oz. bottle

INGREDIENTS: Aqua (Purified Water), Aloe Barbadensis (aloe vera) Leaf Juice, Sodium Laurylglucosides Hydroxypropylsulfonate (sugar), Sodium Methyl cocoyl Taurate (coconut), Oleyl Betaine (palm), Decyl Glucoside (plant), Glycerin (vegetable), Glycine Soja (soy) Protein, Citric Acid (citrus), Soyamidopropalkonium Chloride (soy), Guar Hydroxypropyltrimonium chloride (guar bean), Panthenol (pro vitamin B-5), Sodium Sorbate (salt of benzoic acid), Ethylhexylglycerin (vegetable), citrus Grandis (Grapefruit) Peel Oil, Citrus Junos Peel Oil, citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Orange) Oil

My Thoughts:

I am always weary of trying new shampoos with my daughter, as she is only 14 months old and fusses when it comes time to wash her hair.  So, the last thing I want to worry about is that a product will burn her eyes, or that it will take forever to wash out of her fine hair.  The first go-around, I used only a small amount to see what Savannah's reaction was, and to see if she had a sensitive to the ingredients.  I was surprised at how easy it was to wash out the Silly Shampoo and loved the light scent that was left behind.  Savannah got a little in her eyes and didn't fuss. Based on this, it passed the test, and for this past week, we have been using at each bath time, with the same positive results.  I will definitely be buying more of this shampoo, as it seems to leave Savannah's hair feeling softer and looking shinier than other products we have used.

The second product sampled was the Bubbly Body Wash:

Product Description:
After a busy day of school or play, give your body a bubbly wash at the end of the day! Our Bubbly Body Wash has an uplifting aroma in a mild coconut derived cleanser. This is a mild, safe cleanser for skin that effectively removes surface oil, and dirt without stripping or drying sensitive skin. Bubble your way through the end of the day! 8oz. bottle.
Directions: One to two squirts of our Bubbly Body Wash in a washcloth or loofah will have you bubbling up some fun in the bath or shower! Use Bubbly Body Wash daily to get ready for play or to wash away the dirt of the day! Bubbly Body Wash offers safe, gentle and sudsy fun for all ages! Also doubles as a great bubble bath!

Ingredients * Indicates certified organic ingredients Ingredients in bold Purified water, Aloe Barbadensis, Sodium C14-16 Olefin Sulfonate, Cocoamidopropyl Betaine(coconut derived), Decyl Glucoside, Glycerin, Glycine Soja (Soybean) Protein, Citric Acid, Soyamidopropylkonium Chloride, Guar Hydroxypropyl Trimonium Chloride, Panthenol (Pro-vitamin B5), Sodium Benzoate, Potassium Sorbate, Ethylhexylglycerin, Citrus Grandis (Grapefruit) Oil, Citrus junos (Yuzu) Oil, Citrus Tangerina (Tangerine) Oil

My Thoughts:

I ended up using the Bubbly Body Wash as a bubble bath, as Savannah likes to play with the bubbles in the bathtub.  With only 1-2 squirts, she had a tub full of bubbles that lasted through her entire bath.  As soon as I put Savannah in the tub, she began laughing and playing with the bubbles.  I also used this product as a body wash and was pleasantly surprised at the light citrus scent it left behind on Savannah's skin.  Even with her sensitive skin, she had no nasty reaction to new products like she sometimes does, and her skin felt softer. I wanted to see if it would provide the same results if an adult used it, and it did.  The other day I used it while showering in the AM, and was happy to smell the light citrus scent, which helped wake me up after a long night of being up and down with a teething baby, and after drying off, my skin was soft to the touch.  Who knew a bubble bath/body wash could provide such great results for both baby and mommy?
And, finally, I tried the TruKid Sunny Days Face and Body Stick:

Product Description:

Going Scuba Diving or Surfing? TruKid Sunscreens are Gentle on the Earth and are safe for our oceans. This Sunscreen is Reef Safe!!! Highly Rated for safety on SkinDeep/EWG/Cosmetic Database. For those on the go days. TruKid'sUVA/UVB rays. Please reapply every 40 minutes for best protection. TruKid Sunny Days Face & Body Stick SPF 30 Water Resistant

Active Ingredients: titanium dioxide 8%; zinc oxide 5% Inactive Ingredients: glycine soja (soybean oil), cera alba (beeswax), butrospermum parkil (shea butter), aloe barbadensis leaf extract , prunes amygdalus dulcis (sweet almond oil), citrus aurantium dulcis (orange oil), tocopherol (vitamin e), citrus grandis (gragefruit oil), cocos nucifera (coconut oil), citrus tangerina (tangerine oil), rosmarinus officinalis (rosemary leaf extract

My Thoughts:

I didn't think I would be able to use this product, as fall is almost here, but here in New England, we have had a few hot days these past few days (I am not complaining -- we will take them).  So, when I took Savannah for a stroll or to the park, I made sure to rub Sunny Days face and body stick over her and I.  It was so easy to use and glided on our skin smoothly, unlike other greasy sunblock sprays and lotions that are on the market.  You couldn't even tell you were wearing a sunblock.  And, I didn't have to worry about Savannah rubbing the excess off and getting it in her eyes.  The tube fit easily in my pocket for short strolls or in the diaper bag for on the go.  This product is a must have for moms and babies alike, and is so easy to carry around and apply when needed.  I am happy I had the opportunity to try Sunny Days out, and will definitely be buying more for next year's summer season.

More about TruKid:

Our goal at TruKid is to spread the word about helping our kids create healthy habits, starting with their skin, but we also want the kids to have fun while using our products as well.  That is why we use brightly colored bottles, use fun product names and employ a simple symbol system that kids can easily recognize.

After all, kids do not care that are our products are natural, non-toxic and safe for them and always FREE of Parabens, Phthalates, Gluten, BPA, SLS, 1-4 Dioxzane and Fragrances; but, we know parents do and care a lot about that.
