Feature Friday -- Newborn Necessities (Review and Giveaway)

Closed.

And, the winner is:  Donna

I had the opportunity of introducing you the author of Newborn Necessities, Jennifer Cigale, this past week in my Spotlight on Mommy Monday post.  If you missed it, check out her interview here.

Jennifer wrote the book, Newborn Necessities, after having her second child, Gavin, and realizing that there wasn't a book on the market that new moms could purchase, that would help them track bottle and breast feedings, as well as diaper changes.  With her first child, Olivia, she was jotting down notes on paper.  Then, when she had her son, years later, the hospital was handing out charts to the track this information.  As a result, Jennifer had her ahh hah moment and the concept for her book came about.  It took awhile to stop publishers until she stumbled upon Tate Publishing, who took a chance with her and her book.  And, now, Jennifer is a successful author, and in turn is helping many new moms like myself with tracking important information.

I would have loved to have Jennifer's book after my daughter, Savannah Rose, was born last July.  Three weeks after she was born, she was rushed to the hospital and needed to undergo surgery for pyloric stenosis.  For the first few weeks and after the surgery, we had to be diligent on tracking her feedings: how much formula and breast milk she took in and kept down, as well as the number of wet and soiled diapers.  I had bought an electronic gadget that you had to manually add in this information, but ended up throwing it away, as it took longer to enter the information, than physically writing it down.  I found myself creating my own charts or just writing down her daily feedings in a notebook or on scrap paper.  Dealing with a sick baby, being tired and being a new mom, the last thing I wanted to worry about was finding all the sheets of paper I tracked her feedings and diaper changes on.  Jennifer's book would have saved me time each week, prior to doctor's appointments, gathering this information.

If you are a new or expectant mom, I highly suggest you pick up a copy of Newborn Necessities today.  It also makes a great baby shower gift.  During the first few months of wellness visits, the doctors will ask about  of feedings and types (breast and/or bottle) and the number of wet and soiled diapers.  If you use this log book, your life will be so much easier, when you have to provide the answers to these questions.  And, it will make your life easier, trying to remember which breast the baby last fed on.
